Brown dust on exhaust and spark plug look

I had the same thought. This are NGK BPR6EFS which should be the right ones for the Vortec heads. I compared them with the BPR6FS and these are too short. Compared to the AC Delcos which are also listed for this engine the EFS plugs have the same thread length.

Brown dust on exhaust and spark plug look

Hello, I would like to ask for an oppinion of the experts again. I ran my boat on the meditranian sea in June and I am just preparing to go again in 2 weeks. Now I mentioned some marks of brown smoke at the side exhausts of the Alpha drive. I have nevers seen this before and so I am a little...

Gen 2 Alpha - Do you need to remove the engine to change trim pump hoses?

Just for your entertainment I looked up some pictures. As you see the hoses are running underneath the exhaust to this "distributor block" outside. If you remove this you can pull the hoses out if they are not fixed inside somewhere. Sure it will be much more comfortable to replace the hoses...

Help me be the hero :-), Mercury 4.3 – no spark

Did you press the thread of the plug against a good ground connection during this test ? So the mechanic was there yesterday ? What was wrong finally ?

    2003 4.3L warning alarm horn TB-V alpha

I would assume that the alarm switch is the one with one cable on port side. The one with two cables on starboard is most likely for the instrument. As mentioned already, my alarm switch has a red mark on it.

    2003 4.3L warning alarm horn TB-V alpha

The thread says it is a 4.3 L. So I thought it is a carburetor engine with a Thunderbolt IV or V ECU. This would mean that the sensors are not controlled by the ECU but switch the alarm directly. In this case there are only three…..

    2003 4.3L warning alarm horn TB-V alpha

My temperature switch has only one wire. At my thermostat housing there is one sender for the gauge and one switch for the alarm. Both have one wire.

    2003 4.3L warning alarm horn TB-V alpha

My 4.3 hat three devices connected to the alarm. - the gear oil level - oil pressure on the top of the engine near the distributor - water temperature in the thermostate housing. The switch has a red mark. If the cable is off then the alarm does not sound. So it is an easy way to test by...

    4.3L IGNITION TIMING

If you really have a TB V module there should be a purple/white wire. This is either not connected in normal operation or there is a knock sensor connected with an MPI engine. As you wrote that you have a carb then it should be not connected. So you connect this wire to ground before you...

1975 351cu 233hp Mercruiser, riser block off plates or not?

I was always told they are very important. When you stop quickly the wave at the stern rolls at the back of your boat and and can press water in the exhaust and into your engine. To prevent this the flaps close then water comes in.

    No power to coil

How do you check the power on the coil ? + on the coil and - on the engine ? How does the engine turn without key ?

4.3L block replaced with one that has the balance shaft removed

Rick says to turn the balance shaft uses 15 hp of the motor. So maybe did some tuning .... :) https://forums.iboats.com/threads/4-3l-engine-questions.748477/#post-5690642

Replaced rubber impeller now won't shift to neutral??

Could it be that the lower shift shaft is not inserted in the upper part ?

    Mercruiser shift interrupter

0.4 is close enough to zero to ground the iginition signal. So that will work for sure.

1992 4.3L alpha one gen 2 Water Shutters

Reading this I just remembered that I had the same issue last year. The exhaust pube squezes the rings of the shutter a little and that squezes the shutters themselves and they don't move free. I had to cut the side a little and all was good.

1992 4.3L alpha one gen 2 Water Shutters

They will not unseat. When I bought my boat I also repalced the shutters with the newer version. Originally I hat the one piece version like in picture 1 and 2. The new version has an oval frame that fits in the exhaust. This frame has 2 little noses that click in the original holes and keep...

replacing water intake hose and found this:

Here is a picture of the outside. It is a one piece hose going through the transom. So to replace it you need to remove the gimmal housing and on my boat you will also need to remove the engine to get there.

    4.3l engine questions

You mean it needs 15 hp to turn the balance shaft ? That sounds a lot.

    4.3l engine questions

Yes, you are right. The mixture between crankshaft horsepower and propshaft horsepower is confusing. My original 4.3 pre Vortec with 4 bbl was listed with 200 hp in the boat papers.
