    4.3l engine questions

When I bought my new engine I have gone through many sites and all of them listed the Vortec with 4bbl at 205 hp. Only the one with the roller rocker arms was always listet with 220 hp. I guess only the rollers can not make this difference so maybe something else was changes also on the heads or...

Ok then I got it wrong. I understood that the Kubaat4lover has found this sticker on his engine as he said :

Missing timing tab? Merc 4.3 2005

But you don't need it because you have the sticker on your balancer. So you could use any timing light. By your picture, your timing looks ok.

ignition switch source for fuel pump relay kit?

This pretty simple if you tak a look at the wiring diagram. You do not need to pull a cable to the front. You can use the purple cable on the alternator or you could also use the + connector of the ignition coil. This goes to the oil pressure switch then. So the pump only gets power when oil...

Overheated now wont shift in forward or reverse

The impeller is inside the sterndrive. I can not imagine how to check this from outside. If the engine did overhet then it would be a good idea to take it apart and check that.

Overheated now wont shift in forward or reverse

Checking the impeller means that your husband took of he lower pat of the sterndrive ? Maybe the shift shaft does not match the upper part. What happens if you do not press the little black button. Is the lever blocked then ?

Missing timing tab? Merc 4.3 2005

What do you mean with idle speed function ? On your picture you have the sticker with the degrees. So why did you buy an adjustable light ?

    Mercruiser 4.3L 190 HP Carb/Manifold Intake Upgrade

This question I can not answer because I swapped from an old non Vortec engine with Thunderbolt IV ignition and 4 bbl carburetor to a brand new Vortec engine with Edelbrock carb and intake bridge and Thunderbolt V ignition. With this setup the performance increase is very noticable. With the...

Engine rpm is not stable below 2000 rpm

Yes, I used exactly what Rick suggested and I am very happy with it. Both jet sizes were in the calibration kit 1488 and so I only had to boy the rods seperately.

    Mercruiser 4.3L 190 HP Carb/Manifold Intake Upgrade

I can also only recommend not buy the V6 conversion kit from Edlebrock. I have done that and the engine didn't run really well. With Ricks setup I am absolutely happy now. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/engine-rpm-is-not-stable-below-2000-rpm.746493/ I have bought the Edelbrock manifold...

You could also follow the line backwards from the carburetor. My fuel pump is here:

    4.3 Vortec Upgrade

Thank you for your explanation. This works of course, even I do not get the sense of it.

    4.3 Vortec Upgrade

I would like to ask a question becasue I do not understand this point. If you cut the dipstick tube then the dipstick itself will go in deeper. So for my understanding if you cut something of the tube then you have to cut exactly the same lenght from the dipstick to make it show the correct...

I screwed up install of lower shift cable?

The lowest position might not make enough way to switch your gears. Try to put the bolt in the upper position and if that works then slowly put it down stap by step. The shoe pointing forward is the forward gear, this is normal.

    Cylinder head removal

In general yes. As you also have to remove the exhaust manifold you should check of your exhaust is above the waterline.

I screwed up install of lower shift cable?

I guess a picture explains it better what I wanted to say. The more you move the cable up in the long hole the bigger is the way it makes.

    Fuel pump issues

With the key on there should be no power. Power is supplied when the engine gets started by the starter selenoid and kept alive by the oil pressure switch. When you say the pump resurized with key on then the wiring does not match the plan.

I screwed up install of lower shift cable?

If you want to extend the way the cable is making then you can adjust that inside the boat. The end of the cable is mounted to the shift plate in an long hole. You can move the cable up a little and tighten the nut again to extend the way. I remember that there was a post recently where a guy...

    No power with a 4.3LX

The idle speed for the TB V is 650 rpm. So I would also use this for the TB IV.

I screwed up install of lower shift cable?

There is a little tool available from Mercruiser to keep the slide in place while you push the drive in. I think it makes it easier.
