Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Admiral and I know how that goes. It took us over 2 months to redo all the rivets. We had our fair share of rivets that had to be drilled and new ones put in. We had weekends that we seem'd to fly and everything was working great. Other weekends seemed like we only made it a foot..... We...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Oil based is usually 3 - 7 days. Latex (which shouldn't be used on boats) is 30 days minimum. Epoxy, depends on the brand. As for taking it to the lake, I don't see any issues after 2 weeks. Scratches can be touched up and they will happen. SHSU

    1976 22' SUS O/B "Hydration Break"

I removed all the vinyl on out boat. Didn't make sense and trying to match the original would have been impossible. As for stripping the interior, I am guessing you are not going to cover the interior of the hull wall in carpet. As such, I liked @Moserkr 's approach to only wire brushing...

Looking good! Something to note, I know you want to get her done, but dry vs cure time are two different things. So I figure you are going to do more work prior to the paint being cured. Just keep that in mind as you put stuff on it even though it feels dry. SHSU

Cavitation plate needs to be even to/slightly above level with the bottom of the hull. So whatever bolt pattern that gives you correct placement. SHSU

A aircraft riveting gun is the way to go. As I mentioned in a previous post, traditional impact guns wont do the trick. As for the bit, a brazier head and bucking bar are needed to do it correctly. Not sure how in-depth you are planning to get, but I am pretty sure the team recommends...

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Mine had nails as well. Because of my new design of my cap, I decided not to use any nails or screws. The motor holds down the cap and the end caps do it as well. Plus a liberal amount of 5200 along the entire top SHSU

I haven't had any issues thus far, but I also painted over the 5200 several times since. Personally, for the application 5200 is the correct choice as you should be sandwiching it between the transom and the splashwell. Then doing a finish like you would with caulk. Again though, long term...

Here is the link to what Iboats have. I got a SELCO for my 1974/1974 70 HP Evinrude. It did the trick for me, but I did wonder if there were more detailed like @BOYS & TOYS mentioned http://ww2.iboats.com/Boat-Motor-Repair-Manuals/dm/view_id.1 SHSU

+1 for find a motor you can work on Don't get me wrong, I would love a new motor, but I also love the ability to do my own work and fix the engine as things come up. SHSU

Don't cover the 5200 with coat it. Two different sealants that are designed for different purposes. The coat it won't give like the 5200 is designed to and may cause tearing (where they are adhered together) of the 5200 when it fails. SHSU

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

What our neighbors hear. lol I know how that goes. We had to do all of our work in a garage with the door closed. We used earplugs with earmuffs on top. That help keep it reasonable. As for the eroded and hard to find, we used the tails to identify if we had missed any. All that brown...

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

Leave it to us to try and improve on what we have already done and make it worse. lol I like the idea of using paint vs the epoxy I used since it is easier to do touch ups, but at the same time the durability of the epoxy I have is what keeps me slightly leaning that way. I bet you will be...
