    Quit My Job . . .

CA would be a bit of a trip for me, lol. Does the machine that’s pictured have a servo? It looks like a constant speed motor /clutch Machine.

    Transom patch

Use a 2” or 3” holesaw. Then glue the puck back in with PB when finished.

    Transom patch

Yep, cut the rot out, peal back or grind down the glass a couple feet into the good wood. Sister a new piece of core wood in, glass everything.

    Transom patch

Forgot to mention that if the foam blocks you took out are dry and otherwise haven’t been compromised with water, there’s no reason to not reuse them. I have heard of some guys sealing old foam with resin to close any open cells. Just make sure the resin doesn’t eat the foam by testing a small...

    Transom patch

It will most likely be cheaper to pour in new foam and will provide more support. It might be difficult to find the exact size blocks you need. Most folks have found that US Composites has the best price in pour in foam.

    Quit My Job . . .

Question for you as I’m just entering the upholstery realm on my boat. How much do you use reverse? I found a Consew 225 that’s like new for $500, most likely less. I don’t think these have reverse. There is also a 205RB-1 for $1100-ish that looks new. I’m just curious your thoughts. BTW, your...

    Transom patch

As far as foam, that argument has been has been discussed thousands of times on this forum. In some boats the foam helps support the deck and is very structural as far as the integrity of the hull. All foam floats, unless the closed cell foam is compromised over several years of freeze/ thaw...

    Roof leak

I’m not a houseboat guy, but I don’t see why you can’t repair it like any other roof. Cut out a bad section of sheathing on the center of any studs, replace sheathing, install your roofing material of choice, (fiber glass in this case), done.

    Transom patch

Have you done any investigation below deck for rot? Boats rot from the bottom up so you’re not really doing yourself any favors by just replacing small pieces. It’ll be weak structurally.

    Gimbal Bearing Science

The bearing will move in the aluminum cartridge, (carrier). It may be tight since it’s new. If you rotate the bearing so the bore of the bearing faces the aluminum of the carrier, the bearing will slide out through the slots in the aluminum. They sometimes need a little persuading by putting a...

    Working in colder weather

Yes it’ll most likely cure if you give it some time and a little heat. Make sure you use the full dose of MEKP to catalyze the resin which is 2%. I had the same basic thing happen by calculating the wrong amount of MEKP. I was able to get it to kick by adding heat.

12’ Livingston seeping water through sidewall

You can use either. I use poly myself because it’s cheaper, requires no prep for gel coat, and it’s what the manufacturer use when they built my boat. Since you are painting the boat, epoxy is fine to use.

    Quit My Job . . .

They really look good. I’ll be asking for advice when I start mine…..😁 WOG was recommending a Consew machine and before that I was looking at the sailrite machines. I have a lot of other projects in mind that will make it worth while owning a good machine.

12’ Livingston seeping water through sidewall

Sounds like water is being pushed into the layers of fiberglass from a small crack, gouge, or scrape in the paint. A quick sand and some paint with a catalyst hardener may work for a while. A permanent repair will require sanding all the paint off in that area. You should be able to see where...
