1985 sea ray 250 cc fisherman

Yep, not great news. Boats rot from the bottom up, so there will be a lot more ugly below the deck.

    91 stingray project

Yeah, I waited a while to do my hull as well. As time went on the hull got more and more annoying to look at on the trailer. The boat looked great on the water…..but spends most of its days on a trailer. One day I just got after it. Got all the stains off with Works toilet bowl cleaner. Once it...

    Re-decking question

Unless the boat is in exceptional condition and in dry storage most of its life, a 1990 boat will have some rot. Especially in the fuel cell area where there was plenty of condensation, and little or no drainage. This is where it all started on my 1990 Chaparral…..ahhhh the memories.

Make sure you give those poor sore arms and back a rest every now and then. It’s hard work, but worth it.

    Wooden stringers

Definitely follow the advice given and go the exterior grade plywood route. This is what most of us do. Take your time and get it right, this is the back bone to your project.

    91 stingray project

Scott pretty much said it. There ain’t no other way around it. I used the Meguiar’s system. Had to start out with the 2000 grit light wet sand to get rid of the chalking. Then 49 oxidation remover, 45 high gloss polish, then 56 carnuba wax. I used a buffer for all of this. The best thing is that...

So i was gifted a boat..

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. $2000 is a good estimate of what it’ll take to get her back on the water. It’ll be a lot of work, but rewarding when finished. You have to decide if this is something you can and want to take on. Only you can make that decision.

    Doghouse reconstruction

If you are going to use fiberglass at all, I would stay away from treated plywood. If you’re going to vinyl wrap the plywood, treated is fine. All of my vinyl wrapped backers were treated to a generous drink of old timers wood sealer. 2 parts mineral spirits, 1 part linseed oil, 1 part spars...

    Setting transom with epoxy

Your boat was originally built with poly and it lasted how long? Probably would have lasted longer had attention been paid to quality and the previous owner(s) treated it well. Poly makes a fine glue, epoxy is better. Strength in a transom doesn’t come from the bond of the plywood to the boat...

I need advice on my boat restoration

Was the floor put in to cover soft or weak spots? What’s the shape of the structure and transom? Would hate to see you put a lot of money into tidying things up to only have the boat be rotten in its core.

    Any Archers, archery hunters here?

That sounds nasty. It kills deer a lot faster than CWD does.

    Any Archers, archery hunters here?

What is EHD? I hunt in MD and WV mainly but live in PA. We have been dealing with CWD a lot. Still in the quarantine counties where I hunt in WV.

    Setting transom with epoxy

This advice!!! ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼 I learned the hard way. I think my transom was already out of spec, but I didn’t know enough at the time to ensure it was perfectly straight around the keyhole before I clamped. This lead to me having to fare out the exterior of the transom to get it within spec. Mercruiser...

    Setting transom with epoxy

I wrapped all of the transom wood to build thickness. Not necessary on the side that goes up against the boat, but I added it to help meet the thickness spec for my outdrive. I drilled several holes in the wood as vents for air to escape as I tightened the clamps. I also drilled these holes...
