Mercury 80 hp portable fuel tank

Today's new two stroke oils almost mix themselves, just ask any oil mfgr. Back in the days of mixing 30 at oil, you almost needed a mixer to combine them. If you want to test this for your self....take a gallon clear glass bottle and add two oz of good two stroke oil...( I use Pennzoil and...

    kicker location

Balance is probably the main reason, most helps are on the edge side so putting the kicker on the port helps keep things in balance, at least on my boat. Lots of folks create steering devices so they don't have to lean over the stern to steer. I have found that if my main engine has just the...

Boating Seamanship for a Safe and Fun Experience

Great idea, but....look at the number of idiots on the roads and they were required to be trained and tested to get a license !! Just shows " you can't fix stupid".....

Going rate on a good running 15hp?

Southern Michigan could cause an increase in value if close to lake Erie or lake Michigan as these are often used as kicker motors on larger lake boats. That might add a couple hundred at best, however bottom line is condition ! There are lots of words to describe a motor but what that means...

So, my 2025 Bayliner VR5 200 hp 4.5L mercruiser STILL barely pulls me up

When you go to a 4 blade prop, you typically drip 2" in pitch, not use the same as your 3 blade. You may very well need A prop for cruising and another different prop for skiing.

    rodent infestation

Back in my younger days we kept our boats in lifts, not far from a group of trees. Mice, squirrels, and spiders were plentiful along with a few birds. After a few times of making a big mess, we started leaving the gas cap on the 6 gallon fuel tanks cracked open along with a bowl of ammonia and...

    Bildge pump removal

I agree.....but maby not the mfgrs....often they make changes to the newer models so they won't fit the old platform. Or...the sell the company then the new owners make changes so the old won't fit. We call it progress, but I have other names for it !!

    Mercury 80 HP outboard

According to all the service manuals I have ever used, all Mfgrs recommend making final low speed adjustments and idle speed adjustments with motor warmed up and underway in the water ! Any other method will not give you the best idle performance. My 40 hp Mercy will idle all day at 550 rpm...

Slip/moored boat what do you do with your trailer?

Some years back, my sister and her husband bought into an HOA. All they talked about was how great it was, how much their property values were going up and how it only cost a few more dollars each month to live in such a nice area. 25 years later....they can't sell their HOA for what they have...

Spark plugs for a Merc outboard

I looked these up, the -2 means a larger gap for higher output spark but also requires a bigger charge to the plug.

    Wakeboat bans

In my youth, I had a 10' Jon boat and always out running around on the river. Also worked at the local marina, mowing grass and dock hand for fuel. We had a few hot rodders that enjoyed running close and trying to swamp my little boat. I.made note of the boats and when they came in for fuel...

    Outboard Stands

The motors can be laid down without issue, no stand needed. You need a hoist to pick them up. Used a small chain fall rated for 1000# from Harbor Freight to lift and swap out my 85 hp and 70 hp outboard. Used an old pallet and my ATV jack with wheels to move them around.

Slip/moored boat what do you do with your trailer?

Why does the out drive need to be removed frequently ? Is there another issue ? Usually once each season is all that is needed. Back in my younger days we kept our boat in a lift. Had a big 14' flat bottom boat we pulled up under the lift to do our maintenence.

14.5x19 prop. Contemplating a change, need advice

Right now you stated the wot is at 4800 rpm, so your lugging your engine and making it work harder. With a light load, I would adjust your pitch to get you near the max wot your engine is rated for. Cruising speed/ rpm mean nothing, wot rpm is what you prop for.

Slip/moored boat what do you do with your trailer?

Park the empty trailer in your back yard where it can't be seen, do a camouflage job if necessary to hide it.
