    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

If a Quadrajet needs to be rebuilt or cleaned the first thing we need to do is remove it. The next few posts describe how I removed mine from my 4.3LX Mercruiser. The steps should be pretty universal. The Quadrajet has three main parts. The air horn, which is the top piece, the base, which is...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Did I mention that the Potomac river is pretty low this year??? Yeah, probably not....but it is. I let my daughter captain a little bit while I sat with the Admiral and enjoyed a fairly slow cruise. I was admiring that pretty wake when I heard the depth alarm, and before I could reach the...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

I’m really glad I saved the carb that originally came on my boat. I had it all torn down and in a box. It makes a good model to reference as I read through this very thorough book. I attached the code chart out of the book in case anyone else is ever interested. The Quadrajet has a rich...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Figured I’d start a thread to list some of the adjustments I’ll try and information I find to properly tune a Q-jet 4 bbl carb for my 4.3L LX in my 1990 2000SL Sport Chaparral. I bought this remanufactured carburetor from National Carburetor. The original that came on this engine was so...

    3.0L Merc, parts interchangeability

Is there a definitive list of changes over the years for the ole Iron Duke? Something that lists this head has these port sizes will only work with this manifold, etc. I think for the most part the 3.0 blocks are interchangeable with exception of the ring gear being different pre 90 vs post. It...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Luckily my boat gets the royal semi-climate controlled garage treatment, so she stays pretty clean. That said, I got caught in a freaking torrential down pour Yesterday that drenched the boat. First time I have ever had the bilge pump kick on in auto. You know all those bits of plastic ends...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

That would probably get you a nice award at this point, and a book deal that pays millions, with an interview on The Morning Shmoe. Move along, nothing to see here......:focus: Had a day or so where the river was kind of crappy. Some storms rolled through and stirred things up a bit. The river...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Yeah you’re right about the “everyone has their own” comment. I used all the Meguire’s products which worked well for me. I did the 2000 grit wet sand, then used Turtle Wax scratch and swirl remover, then the Meguiar’s 49, then 45, then topped it off with 56 pure wax. The results are stunning...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I had some more of the carbon fiber wrap so I decided to replace the old black bilge vent covers on the sides of the boat. They were both cracked and weathered and the port side was broken. I had thought about making a custom fiberglass scoop for both sides but wasn’t sure it was worth the...

    Boat restoration 1989 Charger 1850

I also used dimensional lumber for the motor mounts in my Chap. Mine was 2x6 lumber. I also improved mine some by building them up to the original dimensions with plywood. I used PL to glue each layer and secured with screws. I used a scissors jack to hold them in place until the PB fully cured.

    Boat restoration 1989 Charger 1850

I think the lumber you are referring to not only reinforces the keel, but also provides a more flat area for the ski locker and support for the fuel tank. I took most of that wood out, but replaced it with a CPVC pipe that I bedded in PB, then glasses in. I incorporated the CPVC pipe into my...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I guess the CEO of outdoor world decided local gander mountains were not going to be a thing anymore, and holy crap did they have one heck of a sale last fall. I got lots of maintenance items for the boat, as well as a new set of Faria gauges for $114.00. I also got a DJI drone for about $600...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Once I put the boat away, a friend of mine twisted my arm into a snowmobiling trip. Ok he didn’t have to twist too hard. I used to own a couple older Arctic Cats when I was younger, and when we used to get snow in South Central Pennsylvania. He has a newer 4 stroke Arctic Cat and a Ski Doo. We...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

The boat ran great all last summer. We took it to the river almost every weekend. We made a couple trips up to Bald Eagle, which is a nice little lake just south of State College. Our last trip we went to Raystown Lake October 27th, so we extended boat season to it fullest. Once I put the...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

It’s the end of another boating season, but this year was great. We spent many weekends on the boat and made lots of new memories. I took some really cool sunset pictures. Enjoy!! New gauges and possibly some new vinyl this winter, stay tuned!!

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I really HATE putting holes in my boat. In this case I wanted to add a horn. My Chaparral has a horn, it was just screwed under the dash. Honestly it scared me when I pressed the button since it was pointed at me. I guess it must have satisfied some USCG rule, but really wasn’t effective. Well...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Now that the covers are made and snapped in, it is such a pain in the butt to lower the drive. I have to lower the drive once I get it into my garage so that the whole trailer fits. I decided to add a momentary toggle switch in the aft end of the boat to remotely lift and lower the drive...

76 Hammond El Dorado V1950 Restoration

I use an image Resizer app. I usually upload directly from my phone after I resize the image and save it. It takes an extra few seconds per image. Maybe you’re being a bit tongue in cheek, but stay away from photo bucket. Chances are they’ll break your links, unless you pay up.

84 Sea Ray Seville Cuddy - Floor work, new interior

No latches, just hinges attached to the backer of the pads. The plywood backer is heavy enough to keep the lid down. All three of my pads open individually. My buddies Rinker has one solid pad across the entire width. His is attached with a piano hinge and closer arms similar to a hatchback. I...
