1988 50 hp force no spark?

Yes, then you have a short cut in the stator if it show zero Ohm.

1988 50 hp force no spark?

Okey you are using an analog VOM with a needle gauge. In what range to you have it when measuring. I suppose you can change the range from example 200 Ohm, 2000 Ohm (2 KOhm) and 20000 Ohm (20 MOhm).

    Prop size?

The WOT RPM is a bit high but not bad. Be careful not over rev, if you go up 2 in in pitch the RPM would go down about 400 RPM.

    1970 Evinrude 18hp Trottle issue

Secondary side of the coil (HT wire to one of the thin wires) should read about 5-8kOhm. You need to change the setting of you multi meter. If you have it at 400 Ohm range it will read infinity when measure secondary winding of the coil.

1988 50 hp force no spark?

When you says you have 0 Ohms do you mean infinity or short circuit. If infinity the stator is bad, there is an interruption in the winding. If short circuit the stator is bad too. Charge coil should read 680-800 Ohm at the winding and infinity to ground.

Well you can check the flywheel key to be sure, but as the sticker 0-mark lines up with timing plate mark at TDC I do not think it is shared. I would suggest you to start it and check how it perform now. 30 dgr is in my opinion better than 33-34 dgr BTDC you had before.

If you do not got the timing retarded when adjusting the timing rod there are something wrong. Check the zero setting of the distributor. Make sure with a screw driver that the top plug is at TDC and check it compered to the sticker. Is the sticker at TDC when the top piston is at TDC.

As it is to the left of 32 drg right now it is more then 32 drg. Maybe 33-34 dgr. Retard it to 30 dgr or something around there 29-28 dgr. Try from there. The gap between the timing rod would be about 1/2 in at 28-30 dgr.

Measured the gap at the block for the timing rod at my 1975 Chrysler 75Hp. I have the Magna Power I system with electronic distributor (optic diod eye instead of points). The gap is almost 1/2 in (12,3 mm metric).

1988 50 hp force no spark?

Yes you have to glue the magnet strip back! It will move again if you not glue it. Glue it back with super glue or epoxi glue. Clean the surface as best you can then a thin coat of glue and put the magnet strip back in the right place.

Do not know if you open up the gap or closing it when retard, To long time ago I did it. But I think you do not have to screw the timing screw so much to get much retarding.

Yes I know that type of sticker. When you says your engine fire at 87# teeth are you counting the tooth CCW from 0 teeth?

    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

Is your sticker for 32 dgr in the right place? 360/97 = 3,711 (each teeth is 3,711 drg). 97-88 = 9 then the 32 point is at 9x3,711 = 33,40 dgr. Your timing is 87# teeth, that ends up with 97-87 = 10. Your timing is set at 3,40x10 = 34 dgr, a bit too advanced. I would suggest you to retard it to...

Yes left of tab are higher advance as the flywheel turning CW. If it sparks earlier before TDC it is more advanced. I suppose your timing plate (tab) has five lines. The one in center is 0, the two to the left are +4 and +2, the two to the right are -2 and -4 (from left to right +4, +2, 0, -2...

1988 50 hp force no spark?

Blue fin is the copy of my comment in the top of this thread from another thread from you? Got confused with your comment in post #11. However the stator output should be 180VDC DVA or more. Before buying a new stator check the wires from the stator from crack, bad insulation etc. Check the...

I have not worked with those carbs lately so not really sure but I think the tab should go up not down. I do not think you can put it in wrong way, cause the float will not work the wrong way. It will stop against the casting or the bowl. But I can be wrong in this case.

Racerones tester is a cheap simple one and good enought. You can make one by your self and a one you can adjust. A base metal sheet and a screw that you can adjust the gap. If you use a M4 (metric screw) you can just thread a spark plug adapter to the screw. Or buy a spark tester from the web...

Two stroker do not have valves as a four stroker. It have reed valves and they can be mounted in different places depending on brands. Chrysler/Force has as V-reed mouting base assembly behind the carbs at the intake manifold They are like paddles made of stainless steel (Swedish from the...

Do you have the timing plate bolted at the block or/and do you have a sticker at flywheel with a 0-line and four other lines, +4,+2 and -4, -2? Otherwise you can count the teeth at the flywheel, divide it with 360 and you know how many teeth 1 dgr is. Multiply with 28, 29 or 30 and you know how...
