1965 west bend 450 45hp turning over issues.

Check all wire connections for the starter, check the starter solenoid. Are the new starters good quality starters or cheap chines crap? Old OEM starters would be like new after a rebuild, uncommon old starters are fried and not rebuildable.

    Sourcing parts '89 125 HP

Do not know why there are different part numbers, I assume the bullentins are OEM from factory. From my experience all 3 and 4 cylinder Chryslers had 3,3126 bore std and the pistons 3,312 except for the 135Hp, 140Hp and 115Hp mid and late 70es that had 3,375. I have a 135Hp 1976 and it has...

    Sourcing parts '89 125 HP

Yes, LD ........ L-drive. Std piston bore 1988 125Hp should be 3,312 in, in 1989 or 1990 they introduced the 120Hp and the std piston bore was 3,375 in. I do not think the 125 Hp had 3,375 but maybe the LD had 3,375 bore.

1975 Johnson 25 HP Not Running

Butterfly against intake manifold is the throttle, the butterfly at the carb intake is the choke butterfly. The throttle need to be a little open when starting, choke butterfly closed when cold start just for some seconds to get fuel up from the carb bowl to the intake. Throttle and timing...

bought a new to me project today. 35 hp, EVINRUDE electric start with controls HAS NO SPARK

I never suggest to start replacing parts without trouble shoot first. There are multiples of things that can cause a no spark issue. There can also be not only one bad part issue, it can be two or three. I your case as no spark at all it might be a bad stator coil, a bad CDI box or a bad trigger...

    Kill switch question

Scott I think you reversed the function of the NOHC and NCHO in the explanation of the function or do I think backwards?. NOHC normally open when lanyard is in and closes when pulling the lanyard. NCHO normally closed when lanyard is in and opens when pulling the lanyard. Function should be as...

    Kill switch question

You should have a kill switch with a normally open function. It should close the switch when pulling the lanyard. Wire it parallel with the stop function at the key switch and to ground. Black/yellow is the stop wire and you ground it out when killing the engine.

Johnson J4REEA fuel and carb question

Yes you should always switch off the fuel shut off valve when not using the engine. As the fuel tank is mounting higher than the carb there is always a pressure at the needle valve due to the gravity. BTW The inlet for the fuel at these carbs are at the bottom of the bowl but there is a channel...

bought a new to me project today. 35 hp, EVINRUDE electric start with controls HAS NO SPARK

Start with disconnecting the black/yellow wire. It is the stop wire. If no spark then you have to check the output voltage from the charging coil and the output voltage from the trigger coil. To read the peak voltage you have to have a DVA VOM or a DVA adapter connected to a regular VOM...

Force clamp screw bolt thread size?

I am talking about the bolt diameter (threads) not the head size. Do not know the pitch of the threads but I think Scott Danforth is right. Do not know if it is UNC or UNF, but know that earlier Chryslers had both UNC and UNF depending on year.

Force clamp screw bolt thread size?

I believe that one is larger. 5/8 x11 UNC or maybe 3/4 x ?. I know that smal OMC engines (5,5Hp Evinrude 1963) has screw diameter size 5/8 and 11 threads UNC an in. I have just restored one that missed both screw clamp.

    18 hp Johnson no spark

As said above from racerone and Crosbyman and check if the low tension wires to the points and condensers has good insulation and not squeezed to ground. When you changed the coils did you adjust them so the iron core rim is flush to the mounting lugs. The gap between the iron core and the...

    150 hp lower unit replacement

All 90, 120 and 125Hp no Mercury style LU will fit your engine. The gear ration can be a bit different. There were three different ratio, 1.73:1, 1.93:1 and 2:1. I suppose your LU is a two piece drive shaft style. The Mercury style LU was from 1994 and up I believe. BTW There are a post not long...

    Wiring harness question

The black is the negative from battery. In the harness the black should be connect to the first (not the screw holding the terminal strip/busbar to the engine block) but next one from the bottom. There should be a jumper (metal clip) from the mounting screw (first screw from bottom) of the...

1976 Johnson 9.9 won’t “rev” when in the lake.

Sound like it runs at only one cylinder. Does it jump a spark with at least 5/16 in gap in atmosphere? Clean the carb and set the low speed needle at 1,5 turn out from lightly seated.

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

Only test for the CD module is voltage output to the ignition coils with a DVA meter. Other test as said before voltage output from the stator to the CD module and voltage output from the trigger to the CD module. Check the grounding of the CD modules and ignition coils mounting bracket to the...

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

Okey, that can be the thing that gives you the issue. Check all those thin wires, pull gently at the wire and check if it is loose at the lug. They can be loose under the shrink tube.
