Reverse lock mechanism and Tilt Motor

If you now have a T&T unit (Trim and Tilt) the reverse lock is not needed. Remove it or disconnect it. You can check the different between manual tilt and T&T at Crowley marine. Look at Mercury outboard, Mariner and Mercruiser parts online then go for Force outboard 1991 70Hp.

    The unfixable headgasket - 1996 Force 15hp

Do the torque in three steps and in a circular pattern as jimmbo describes. If the end value is 130 inch pounds start with 70 in first step then 100 and then finish with 130.

Recommendation on Force Sealant for Crank

There are a lot of seal for this application. Loctite 518 as racerone suggest is one. I use Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket no.3. The package has a built in brush in the cap and easy to apply.

Force 85 (1985) Doesn't like to do more than idle in water - and often dies on its own

As you have checked comprerssion in all 3 cylinders and it is 145 PSI the next step is to check for spark at all 3 cylinders. If spark is okey then clean the carbs, check the float levels and then set the air/fuel mixture screws at 1 1/4 of a turn out from lightly seated. Then you have to set...

    Super Ugly Pistons

ForcedError melted/detonation pistons are a result of either lean settings of the air/fuel mixture screws of not right set of the timing. It can also be both of this issues. As you says the reed valves are not sealing tight and you can see daylight through them. A little bit of gap is acceptable...

    Lost the yoke

You have two options. First pull the LU from the engine, remove the water impeller housing then remove the top cover of the gear case. Then maybe you can catch the yoke and put it in place using marine grease. BUT be very careful when you remove the top cover, you maybe break it if it is tight...

    Lost the yoke

Please give us information about engine brand (Chrysler or Force), Hp and model number. The LUs are different from models, Hp etc.

1990 Force 50 HP Bearing Cage Kit Replacement

That washer in the upper part of the housing is a part of the old shift rod seal. Pull it away and clean the wall of the seal seat with fine sandpaper. Lube the new seal with gear oil and push it in with a suitable socket from upper part of the gear housing. Be careful when start pushing the new...

Hi all so back kind of after a rebuild as found broken rings not causing any problems but once seen

125 A 19 p prop maybe to big, depends on load. For skiing you maybe need a 17p or 15 p to have enought of RPM at the prop in the start. You loose about 200 RPM in every inch of lager pitch of the prop, BUT you got more top speed. A tach will give you the answer, WOT about 5200 RPM and you have...

    73 Chrysler 85hp won't start

Check the flywheel key. Might be shared. Set the top cylinder in TDC. The curved line at the distributor pulley should line up with the flywheel rim. If not the timing is off, maybe the flywheel is shared.

1990 50HP Force Starts but won’t stay running

First of all check for good spark at both cylinders, then check compression. If you have compression and spark then check the flywheel key. If it is shared, then the timing is off and it would not start even if spark, compression and fuel delivery is okey.

1990 Force 50 HP Bearing Cage Kit Replacement

I think that black rubber seal is the rubber boot seal which suppose to seal the drive shaft spline up against the crank. Part number 819293. There are no more seals for the water tube to the impeller housing then the white plastic one with part number FA 485914. The black rubber boot seal is...

Force 85 1989 flywheel magnet pain

That ignition system is the one Mercury started to put on the Force engines in I believe 1991-92 (Thunderbolt ignition). It has a more reliable reputation then the Prestolite system which the engines was equipped with before. In my opinion the Prestolite system was as good as the Thunderbolt but...

90hp Force with no serial number

Does it have single exhaust LU or dual? If single I believe it is a 1990 and if duel exhaust a 1991.

90hp Force with no serial number

If the ID tag is unreadable it can be hard to find the serial number. Sometimes there has been a glued label around/behind the starter. You can find the year of it by looking for a circle "stamp" in the block casting behind the mounting plate for the ignition power packs. In the center of it you...

    Force 125 lower unit issue

The second and fourth pic are the 85Hp and it has the single exhaust LU. It is a 1988 year model. Is the 125Hp LU a single exhaust LU or a dual? I think they are interchangeable, but the gear ratio can be different. It is easy to check the ratio. Pull the plugs and turn the flywheel one turn and...

    Force 125 lower unit issue

Please check the model number on both and post those. They should be interchangeable, but there was some different LU. Single exhaust and dual exhaust, one piece drive shaft and two piece drive shaft. 2:1 or 1,93:1 gear ratio.

    Chrysler 757HB. Heating problems (again!)

Looking at your pics closer, how is the surface between cyl. 2 and 3 exactly where the head gasket failed. Looks like the surface is not flate. Can be a wrong interpretation of the image.

    Chrysler 757HB. Heating problems (again!)

ErSa, check the head for warp with a straight ruler. Not more then 0,10 mm feeler gauge able to go through. Most important around the cylinders. If more, grind it at a piece of glass with a water grinding paper in a eight (8) pattern. Install a new head gasket and torque it in 3 steps and start...
