1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I looked at the original Johnson hook, and its designed in a way that the 'T pin' can be removed, and then a bolt through the center of it. I've actually found pictures of the same bracket set up like that. I'll add teflon washers top and bottom. The bigger problem is, I measured for 10'...

    Johnson steering and control.

Kind of. You will have to go to an Evinrude dealer and tell them what you want to do and they will open the parts catalog. Prepare to spend a lot. Afaik the kit is no longer available, just parts to make it work

Replace old throttle control box with newer version

Mercury should have an adapter harness available. Mercury bought Force in the 90s. They later came with Mercury controls, but you can adapt the old US marine control harness with the adapter

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

It's for sure in the cards for winter, but my new motor comes on Tuesday and I'm hoping to have it in the water on Sunday. Since the cable steering is operational, all I need to do is create an adapter

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I hit the first snag I think while de rigging the 40hp. Nothing that I cannot overcome I'm pretty sure. The center link for the cable steering that hooks to the motor is a push in and 1/4 turn key hole thing, for the old motor and it's horizontal. I need to somehow adapt that to the center...

    Converting Mercruiser MC-1 to Alpha

If you buy a donor boat, you can have the engine out with a chainsaw in 10-15 mins. Since the Alpha Gen II came out in 1992 IIRC, there are lots of rotted Brunswick boats ( Bayliner and many others ) that can be had... Being you have a late 60's boat though, asses your boats structural...

    Converting Mercruiser MC-1 to Alpha

The problem is cobbling up what you need to make the I6 work. It really wasn't used past 1977 I think. It may have gone a little later, but the infamous 470 actually replaced it, and then the 4.3L replaced that. So you can get to an Alpha 1 Gen 1, but it will take some older parts from a later...

    Converting Mercruiser MC-1 to Alpha

Does your drive use a cable for tilt or does it have trim rams? If it has the cable, then it's the older style.. If it has trim rams, then you can likely keep your transom plate, change the gimbal bearing and bellows, and then put an SEI drive on it... If you have to mess with the transom...

De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

The next town over has a '61 Dorsett Catalina with no motor for $300. Would do ok with the Big Twin 40hp... But I have too many boats and don't need another restoration project

    Aluminum and fiber glass

plywood that has started to check, has gotten wet and is starting to fail. However, yes it would work fine. But sanding and then just using epoxy resin would work too. Follow with your paint

De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

Being a '66 it's permitted to use 50:1. It runs great. Just time to bring the boat up to date for my purposes.

De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

I'm repowering the boat with a brand new 25hp Suzuki, so yes all of the Johnson/ OMC stuff is going.I'm fairly sure that this boat came with this motor.. The previous owners put in a battery disconnect which looks like they did it cleanly but I've never looked at exactly how they tied it in...

Never underestimate the power of the mechanical fuel pump

The way you bump pressure on a mech fuel pump for forced induction was to boost reference the weep hole, which puts pressure on the diaphram and causes the pressure to rise 1:1... I wonder if the weep hole got plugged by insects. If it couldn't vent, it could hold pressure ontop of the diaphram...

De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

Ok, that makes sense.. And the harness that runs up to the ignition switch should be one complete harness right? So that will terminate from the junction box to the dash.

    kicker bracket small area transom

You won't need 10hp. 5hp will troll that hull just fine. I would put 5hp on a bracket, so that the powerheads don't clutter up the transom so much. You could clamp a 5hp to the transom most likely. Looks like there is enough room

De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

I know that the wires under the cowl need to be un plugged first, since it is a pre red plug motor, or do I keep it connected on that end and disconnect from the front? This motor has the charging box as well, being its's a Deluxe with charging circuit although I don't think it works.

    Towing with/without Overdrive

That's a 5R55S, which dates back to the A4LD. I would for sure pull it out of OD. Towing in OD would get the trans a bit warm, and then they tend to have solenoid problems that you will feel with a reverse delay and eventually get an extra neutral when you loose reverse

    Towing with/without Overdrive

Agree. Use tow/ haul if you have it... IF you just have an overdrive switch, for sure switch OD off... And if you have an older Dodge, keep OD off all the time and the trans will last forever

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I did figure out that the 25hp and 30hp differences is only the ECU and a throttle body restrictor vs a spark arrester. $600 in parts + voiding the warranty most likely. I would have gotten a 30hp, except Zuk does not make a 30hp short shaft.. I won't void the warranty so I'll leave it as...

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

The issue was not knowing how good it was without knowing what to look for what wasn't, if it wasn't 'good'. It starts almost instantly, I've had it in the bucket running for hours but it does start to skip and pop after a while, but clears right up with a little throttle. Seemed to be fully...
