    Drain Plug Rot

Boats rot from bottom up, not top down. First spot is either stringers or drain plug since they're more than likely not sealed properly. A 30+ yr old boat probably didn't have the best QC when it was assembled...ahem slapped together. So...once the transom starts rotting around the drain plug...

How do you cut the threaded pipe on aerator pumps?

Why not a hacksaw? That's more than likely how it was assembled based on what I've seen in the showrooms and past boat shows. Clean it up with a file afterwards....its more than the factory did.

Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

Congrats on the purchase! Bringing back some memories...see my signature :)

    1988 Mastercraft prostar $7,800

You can lug around a tube with almost any power. Waterskiing has been done behind outboards and I/O's...unless you're into competitive skiing that is. Are you sure you want a traditional inboard? Without trying to sound insulting, this is the angled prop shaft under the boat with a rudder in...

Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

I had a long post listing a bunch of cons but they're pretty much the same as everyone else. I'll sum it up this way: I wouldn't consider that a water ready vessel under any definition....well maybe submarine as that's what you'll have when the transom fails as its rotting.

    Horn is driving me insane

Not trying to be rude but you might get a better response if we knew what boat you were working on..... Year Make Model Length Power - outboard, inboard, i/o From the description and not knowing precisely what was done, my starting point would be breaking out a notebook and tracing wires to...

1986 Brougham Bridger Yukon Delta Fishing boat renovation

Such a long ways from when it was drug out of the mud. Keep the progress rolling! And...um...friendly advice...put a ring on it. Not many GF's willingly climb onto a mildew/algae covered boat and clean it OR are found underneath grinding off god knows what :)

    Cmc tilt and trim, Help

The relays are in your wiring harness correct? If so, what I would do is go with insulated spade connectors and just make my own harness. Your favorite marine supply house should carry female spade connectors with insulating shrink wrap on them already. Probably Anchor brand. Crimp onto the wire...

    Considering New Boat

Bayliner has upped their game substantially since the naysayers around here last looked at them. They do deserve a look. As for Regal, I think its them anyways, the only thing I didn't like were the goofy tail lights they mounted into the transom. You connect them to the trailer wiring and...

1986 Brougham Bridger Yukon Delta Fishing boat renovation

It's expensive but its darn nice on the feet! I have SeaDek on my swim platform and let me tell you it is darn near ice cold in the blazing sun where you would leave skin on vinyl. Best $700+ I ever spent on a boat and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

    Co-Ownership Question . . .

I'd say no for the following....you know how you do your maintenance. What happens when someone else decides to pony up for the bill? Will they use the same mechanic/parts/procedures OR will they cheap charlie it? Too many what ifs. My cousins all have their own boats for just that reason.

Unexplained rain water on new deck boat

Just because its covered doesn't mean its water tight. IF your cover has cut outs around mounting points for a convertible top/bimini, you may be getting water in that way. IF you have separate bow and cockpit covers, you may be getting water in around a walkthrough windshield - all my boats...

19' to 21' Bowriders or Sport Decks

Bayliner has come a very long way from the 80's. Those dissing them really need to take a second look as they have repositioned themselves in the market. In other words, get with the times folks as today's Bayliner isn't the same as those from years gone by. I wouldn't own a Stingray as they...

For those fishing enthusiasts - what's your style of boat?

The Fish & Ski in my sig.... I have fished from other platforms but this works as a good all around boat for my family. Will go larger when needed...admiral's approval!

    Newbie few trailer issues

Your best bet would be to post some pics of what you're working with. Good side and end shots. That'll give us the best idea of what the trailer is, how a setup could be adjusted, etc.

    Hull support trestle

Years, and years ago....think late 80's here.... the '56 MFG had a trailer issue that the marina caused (Long story). Their solution was to lower the tongue all the way to the ground, stuff a couple of those stands under the transom, jack the bow up and support it like you're suggesting with...

    SeaDek

Installed it on my swim platform. Best purchase ever made. Period. Vinyl and carpet are hot in the sun, this stuff is nice and cool....same amount of sun exposure. As for stains, haven't had one yet. And I fish, no wine on board. Hoses right off and if not, then a mild detergent (boat soap)...

    1989 Sunray Allegro Boat Manual??

Nobody's responded as we see this all the time...here's the scoop... Boat manual - came only with the boat and generally speaking not worth the paper it was printed on. Pointy end is the bow, point it where you want to go. Flat end is the stern. And some general rules of the waterway to observe...
