    Residual Heat during this "lockdown"

Yeah, I hear ya! It's been snowing here in Mount Pocono, P.A. for a couple days now. Very cold all last week and continuing. Low of 6 (F) high of 16 (F). I went out twice with the snowblower and when I look out there, it doesn't look like I did anything. We must have gotten 3 feet so far...

How to change oil with a rusted dipstick?

I would try to fix that dipstick problem. Are you sure you can't drain it from the oil pan drain plug? You may or may not have this setup.... My oil pan doesn't have a drain plug per se. It has a rubber tube attached to the oil pan. It lays in the bilge and has a plug on the end. The tube gets...

    I/Os in salt water...

On the anode subject... My boat (2003) is in fresh water and my outdrive looks brand new. No Mercathod system. One year I discovered a few tiny spots on the outdrive where paint was peeling. The aluminum was corroding at those spots. I looked around and discovered that the (bare) bonding...

    Frozen Brakes

I would confirm that it's not the breakaway first. You probably already know this... From your picture, it looks like you are also missing the clamp mechanism that grabs the hitch ball. Let us know how you make out.

Replacing gear lube hose between transom and bell housing

As I said earlier, it's very difficult to change out that (barb) transom bulkhead fitting, at least on my boat. With a long thin screwdriver, reaching one arm in there, barely seeing what I was doing and contorting my body I was able to pry the "E" clip off, then the fitting pulled right out...

Replacing gear lube hose between transom and bell housing

Mine is an Alpha 1 Gen 2 and the hose barb is held in with an E clip from the inside of the boat. A real difficult place to reach in my boat behind the 4.3L. I believe there are some that have a nut holding them from the inside.

Replacing gear lube hose between transom and bell housing

You dont want to break that transom fitting! Been there done that!! Why the heck is that thing made of plastic anyway??? Brass would have been much better. It was nearly impossible for me to reach the fitting's "E" clip behind the engine. I was barely able reach one hand back there and...

    Upgrade Steering On 16ft Bayliner

My 18 ft. Bayliner has power steering. A couple years ago my steering was so hard to turn I had to fight it with two hands. It was the cable. Once it was replaced, it was a world of difference. So if your cable is shot, it won't matter if it's manual or power steering. When replacing the cable...

    Volvo Penta Stiff Steering

I had a very stiff Mercruiser power steering situation on my 16 year old boat. So hard I needed two hands to fight it. After trying to lube everything that moves by the actuator with no results, I disconnected the cable at the actuator. Turning the wheel was still very difficult, so I knew the...

    Trailer security, locking trailer jack?

What does everyone do to protect their boat while it is parked on its trailer? A nearby neighborhood had some cars broken into and three cars were stolen completely. My boat sits in my driveway during the boating season and would seem to be easy prey compared to a car. What can I do to protect...

Hydraulic surge brakes, Should I junk them and go electric?

My Karavan boat trailer axle is rated at 3520 pounds and has surge brakes from the factory. According to the boat manufacturer, the dry weight of boat and trailer combined is 2905 pounds. The surge brakes don't seem to be working. I had the drums off to pack the bearings and during the...

Hoping we are allowed to go boating soon here in PA

With the virus restrictions, I'm hoping they'll let us go boating soon. I think it's BS. Who can we possibly harm by using our boat? It's just me and the wife. We won't even come close to being in contact with anyone else. Especially since we only boat during the week. We never go on the...

Youth life vest for 4 year old

I searched here and came up with a couple posts but still have some questions. Sitting here in PA dreaming about boating while it's currently snowing out! We boat on lakes only. Thinking about this coming Summer and bringing our 4 year old grandson boating. Obviously he will be wearing the...

    It's a Bear!!

Here's a black bear on my porch. He was caught on my security camera walking off with a bird feeder in his/her mouth. We never found the feeder.

    What are your other hobbies?

So, as the title states, what are your other hobbies or interests? List them here! Past and present, anything... Pictures are most welcomed. I was into motorcycles a while ago, then pooled my money from that into a classic Mustang, then sold that and rolled that money into boating. Luckily, each...

    back patio

Gorgeous! Nice job! That raised part of the deck with the telephone pole pilings would be a nice location for a koi pond to span out. You could view it from the pool side or look down at it from inside. It's one of my hobbies. I have a 1500 gallon koi pond with about 6 huge koi a bunch of...

    Thunderbolt iv pickup

I see what you're saying. Mine didn't have posts like that. Maybe because mine is a Thunderbolt V. Mine had wires sticking out with bullet connectors that plugged right in. So, I guess what you have from your Thunderbolt IV box is two wires with ring terminals on them. So, you either need a...
