    Merc prop selector

There is an excellent quite recent hub kit available now…takes up loads of the harsh out shifting, with props like these Scott. What a difference I found. Especially on the outboard

Mercruiser 350 mpi horizon 2007 max rpm 2500 today

Hi. Mpi after the early years, have a neutral safety switch in the remotes. Doesn’t let you rev past 2500 in neutral. If you’ve disturbed that or it’s making a contact when it shouldn’t in there…this is the result perhaps. But. The mention of a trim sensor there. Some models have the same...

    Merc prop selector

Definitely room for improvement over a vengeance. Honestly. I go on about them all the time. What a waste of metal. Literally just a heavy version of a black max ally. Not that the black max is a bad prop. Is what it is though and the value is the attraction. The vengeance on any boat I’ve seen...

    1972 Glastron v164 trim gauge

Love that boat chase. Only thing I can fault it for, is just me having an issue with jet boats in general. They just seem to haemorrhage hp like a severed artery does, blood ! Love the CV19 they used. Billy bobs boat 😂. Even if it was a bloody jet drive !

    Merc prop selector

Mirage wouldn’t be a great choice for that set up, to be fair. Very outdated prop these days too. Tempest plus can be a great prop, depending on the set up. But can also have a habit of acting like more pitch than it is. Huge blades on them. My bow rider turns a tempest pretty well. Unbeatable...

    Date/name of Mercury props

The x7 is mercury’s lightweight stainless alloy range of props. Apparently stronger and as a result thinner blades. The enertia prop was about or maybe the first one I knew, with it. I have one of them. It’s certainly considerably lighter than the tempest plus, in comparison. Very noticeable

    1972 Glastron v164 trim gauge

Sounds like a great wee package you got yourself. Like some of the older Glastron. Big fan. Enough to have a very rare UK made Roger Clark built cvx16. She has a big merc v6 2 stroke on the back of her. Just coming up for 40 year old soon.

    1972 Glastron v164 trim gauge

That’s about the most manly reason for doing away with the trim gauge, I’ve ever heard. Fair play to you sir ! I thought I was good until reading this..when I replaced the horn rocker switch, for a 12v outlet to power my beer fridge…your example takes the prize though..I must do likewise 💪🏻

Mercruiser Alpha 1 - backfired and died out on the water ( Its electrical 100% ) - need basic troubleshooting steps,, how do i check charging system?

Hi. Not making much sense of the battery charge thinking there..but anyway, if there is any doubt over the battery, replace it. When she’s running, you should be seeing at least 13.5 volts and ideally more. Finally, hope I’m wrong…but you’ll no doubt be aware that the notorious 3.7 has a party...

    Boat engines

Aye..what 5.0 are we talking here ? Carb, carb tks, efi tbi or mpi ? Presumably one of the latter with the mention of an injector? If it is mpi perhaps…it will be one of a couple odds on favourites for sure. Keen to hear back.

What year model is my mercruiser 3.0?

What solenoid you after. I’ve no clue or means to look up numbers like others can in here..but she looks to be the same as every other 3.0 ever made from around the early to mid 90’s or just after perhaps. Is it a starter or maybe trim solenoid your after ?

    5.7 Mercruiser flushing options

Manifolds and risers are consumable parts. No big deal. Even raw water cooled versions have managed to survive half a century by now…more damage is done to them by leaving them empty and not filled with a protective medium over storage or winter lay up. As some on here once told me ( might have...

    3.0 Mercruiser Inboard Knocking Sound

Was going to ask the same thing as above. But to be fair…there ain’t any such thing as a gm 3.0 that doesn’t sound rough as toast. Harsh on the ears for sure. But they keep on going…tried and tested for half a century now. But…that said..the usual noise is from the lifters and push rods most...

    1972 Glastron v164 trim gauge

Failing all that…do what us old school guys have always done…look out the back, listen and feel what the boat is doing or reacting like, with trim adjustment. Not sure I’ve ever needed the use of a trim gauge to be honest. Despite having them on two of the boats currently. Gauge won’t tell you...

    Low Compression, Low $ Advice

Hi. Firstly. These things are known to be only breakable by ridiculous human error. Otherwise I’ve yet to know if one that’s failed. Forget all the silly additives. Get her a strong dose of oil mix (by the way…these have a great oil injection system as they are)…run her on load…then do a test...

My 1993 mariner idles but stalls out in faster speed

Yeah. As above. Not too much involved in taking them off. Likely the issue. Float sticking or jet blocked. Check the fuel line, bulb and fittings too.

    Fuel efficiency for long-ish trip

My thoughts… Best fuel economy on a boat like this.. is one of two places. Either around 1000-1200 rpm at around 5/6 mph with the bow planted in the water and full displacement mode…or a couple of hundred rpm above minimum planing speed. Say around a typical guess (for that boat) at about...

Lost key trying to find replacement

Hi. Others above are correct. But I’m almost certain, if you want the exact key at the first attempt…loosen off that ignition barrel retainer nut..pull the barrel out a little (worst case..open the control box up)…and you’ll usually see a 3 digit number there. That’s the number coding to the key...

    XR 4 Hydrofoil

Please don’t. Terrible things and known a few occasions for them to actually snap off part of the AV plate. No excuse for them really. Nothing that can’t be solved with clever selection of a suitable prop. I’d even then you still feel unsatisfied…think about weight distribution and tankage. If...
