WOW Arch, that is certainly an ambitious spring plan there. I can honestly say, I'm really not a fan of heights. But sometimes you have to fight that fear and do things anyway. I will admit, the roof was built on two angles with my chimney. First was a mere 4 1/2" pitch (the roof over the...

Answer...well yes and no. If I get a stronger spring it will make the adjacent unit's turnbuckle move inwards a heck of a lot more. But as it sits, the turnbuckle setup merely slides into the block assembly and therefore if you need to use either of them, the other one can easily be removed out...

Here is the final S/S project...I hope! Yesterday I sprayed painted this stand using Rustoleum Professional paint (because I had it in the paint cabinet already) and Majic Catalyst hardener and of course some thinner (Acetone per instructions). And to my surprise it came out pretty well. I...

WOW, didn't know they still existed. But for sure it is a well built fireplace. If you are worried about creosote build up, you could get a good light and either look up through the firebox area or climb up there and look down. I am sure there will be some build up, but probably not a dangerous...

Arch, not sure but I thought even masonry fire places still use stainless steel pipes inside. And it that is true for yours, then it needs maintained as well. IDK

The last few days I tackled a huge project that I have been putting off for a couple years. Seems every year around fall time I think about if our chimney is okay/safe to burn wood fires in it still. And I always worry that it could be filled up with creosote, even though we only burn hardwoods...

Well @sphelps, I tried to make them red for hot which means expand, and blue for cold which mean contract. I think most guys understand the cold shrinking issue...

    Amateur needs advice

If I were doing this, I would remove ALL the wood and rebuild it back with fresh rot-free wood, sealed with fiberglass and polyester resins. Then you can make whatever type seat bases you like and even polyester them to the subfloor. But that is just me.

    Best adhesive remover?

I had a similar situation with a tool container that the foam deteriorated into crummy crap when you touched it, and the glue was left behind. This wasn't any typical glue but some gummy junk. First thing come to mind was Goo Gone and I bought some just for this project. While it softened the...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Last couple days I've been working on the NEW stretcher/shrinker stand. Why a new stand you ask? Because the initial stand was built using a mere 12" or 13" rim. And if I really pressed on the foot pedal hard, the stand would tip up. So I decided to get a large diameter rim. I got a 17" rim...

    What is this?

Thanks Fun Times and GA_Boater for explaining this to me. Seems I am not as computer savvy as I once was decades ago. That's what happens when you retire. New computer ideas continue and new formats don't stop, but you, or I should say, I did... lol

    What is this?

I am certain there are tons of questions with this new forum format. However, I posted a new post recently and when I was finished, I noticed an "eye" aside of my new post, and nobody else's post has one!. I hovered over it with the mouse and it stated "watched thread". So exactly what does that...

Well as strange as this new setup is, I am going to try and make a post with pictures. Well first thing is, I will be foregoing cleaver little smiley faces since my usual's are yet to be found or swapped with new versions. As promised, I have stretcher/shrinker pictures with them both finished...

Let me see if I can explain what these things do. If you are working on a piece of angle metal but need to bent it one direction or the other without cutting the metal, you use either a shrinker or a stretcher to do that bend. In other words, you can stretch the flat metal to make it bent...

Okay, as promised, here are the pre-paint/finish pictures of my stretcher/shrinker body build. It is the closest I will ever get to body-building, that's for sure... I am showing both the factory version and my version. See if you can figure out which is which? And now after finishing...

Nice rifle. I am guessing the squirrel doesn't think so... :D I attached a picture of one of my squirrel getters. I have quite a few. But this rifle has been with me for decades...not in that style setup though. It has a 1 inch stainless steel fluted custom barrel with a custom trigger...

Okay, I thought I would post what those little furry squirrels did to my boat trailer. I've been telling you all about how they worked the trailer over. So I am posting a few pictures for you to see their results. Now you can see what those sweet little fur balls are capable of... Maybe they...

While I am thinking about it. Does anyone use a wireless trolling motor from either Minn Kota or Motor Guide? I am looking that direction because I am not sure the typical foot control models have a long enough cable length to allow me to mount it and have the foot control at my feet below the...

I know I must have posted this on here before somewhere, but it still amazes me to see this happen. Any time I am grinding or sanding metal just outside my shop (to keep the fillings out there instead of the shop) large FLIES come to the source of the noise and me. These are not your typical...

1989 Four Winns bring back from the dead project

I choose the route to make a movable cradle for my little 14 foot tri-hull. And that is because the trailer was in total need of rebuilding as well. And that cradle was really nothing special other then supporting the hull in multiple places and with installed casters, I could easily move it...
