    Wiring

Time to remove all that old cracking wire and install proper fuses or circuit breakers as you rewire back. I like circuit breakers if they are quality types. But lots of boaters like fuses. It is a personal opinion. Plan your wiring so it takes the correct layout and not so much wasted wiring...

What is this repair going to take - hull damage

You have to separate the loose material until you get to solid non-delamination. That will be your starting point from there. Just hope it isn't too large an area. But this has been going on for a while from the looks of things. So It could be involved with a lot larger area then you think. But...

What is this repair going to take - hull damage

I agree. It looks like you have some delamination going on there. And that is never a good thing. But you will never know to what extent until you start to sand down the area. If you have it contained to a small area, not much of a fix. But if it goes on for a length, then you got some serious...

    Specific paint for outboard motor?

If you go that route, be very careful what fuels come into contact with lacquer(s). Ethanol could cause some issues with lacquer finishes. So test before you do your finish so you won't have an Uh OH issue.

    Specific paint for outboard motor?

Before giving up on a spray gun and compressor setup, HF sells some cheap spray guns that while not "professional quality types" they can yield a decent paint job. And a small compressor is all you need. Maybe a neighbor has one you could borrow for that effort. Heck the neighbor may even help...

    Tankless Hot Water Heater Recommendation

Seems you are having an interesting time. But don't despair, in a couple weeks you will look back and probably laugh about it all. Believe me, things can be worst...

    Tankless Hot Water Heater Recommendation

We went thought the same dilemma a few years ago myself. However, we had a little different situation since we don't have gas. After contemplating everything for all options, good and bad, we went back to a tank setup and that took care of it quickly. Just my story. It wouldn't have been too...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Well it is not finished yet, but here is some assembly pictures. I switched up materials for the transom cap from aluminum to steel. Why you ask? Because I STILL can't weld .060" aluminum after so many tries and setting with ZERO accomplishments. But I can weld steel all day long and make it...

    Specific paint for outboard motor?

Whatever method you decide on, make sure you are applying a catalyst type paint IF you want it to stay on for any length of time. PPG makes awesome paint and worth the cost. And when properly applied it is resistance to oil, gas and fuels. But rattle cans don't offer the quality of catalyst...

    hello new guy here

Well welcome to iboats. Great to have you as a new member. Like Scott stated above, if you have deteriorated interior, more then likely you have other issues under the floor and even the transom to check out. I would do a really good investigation on the structure of the hull. But post up a...

    First Engine Rebuild you did

First ENGINE was a '72 Dodge Challenger 340. You can't put super high lift and duration cams and 850 DP 4B Holley and Headman Headers in stock engines unless you follow up with all the other things that need to change too. So It dropped a valve and locked up the engine. The valve was in an "S"...

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Some of those older cameras are worth a ton of money these days. And the large film types took some very impressive shots, even when enlarged as well. Large format cameras are still worthy of competing with digital, even today...

    Towing boat with motorcycle rack

Anyway to actually extent your receiver hitch longer to accommodate the boat AND allow for the scooter to ride on top of the extension? A solid extension would solve the boat issue. But it has to be long enough to allow free movement of the trailer while carrying the scooter. I've actually seen...

Question about parts that aren’t being manufactured anymore

I have no idea what that is supposed to look like, but it seriously looks like a home-grown fix that didn't work out. Now is the time to think of ideas to accomplish what the broken part is supposed to do, and make it happen with maybe some other idea. If you had a lathe, you could turn...

    Bad Fuel Guage

Could check the net for your gauge and model to see what sender it takes to verify a 240 (empty)-33(full) resistance sweep will work. Could be both sender and gauge are working find, just mismatched. JMHO

How in the heck do you get these spark plugs out??

Seems the design engineers have no idea what the actual technicians have to do to change such things. You would think in todays modern technology they would at least talk between themselves when designing anything. But that phrase; "The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing", sure...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

A little update. Well seems I finally got around to it to start back on the transom cap. And I have to say, those stretcher/shrinker tools work amazingly well. I am very please with how they came out. And I have been bending the metal to work on the fit. Amazing to see you can bend metal to...

    Tips, Hints and Other Ideas

Here is an idea that I was wondering about and have the answer now. I was building two drawers to go under the bench. But I didn't want them to be flush with the front of the bench where I sit and do lots of things. I mean I like my knees without hitting them with drawer corners. So I was going...
