    Signs of bad pour foam

I don't really get carried away with mixing tools for pour-in foam, You only get about 20 seconds to mix it  , so even a paint stir stick will do. Also, it is best to mix in small batches according to how much you can pour in about 30 seconds.

    initial boat inspection how to's

Here is a buyer's checklist. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/for-new-members-needing-help-buying-a-boat-a-buyers-checklist.612841/ SAMS and NAMS are 2 marine surveyor accreditation organizations that have directories, so you can find a surveyor in your area. I also recommend Googling the...

Towing a boat with 9ft beam...

    Congrats . . . now you'll be ready for a 307 SSX in a few years. 🤪

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Things to check/verify . . . Tachometer giving correct RPM reading (does the engine really sound like it is revving to 5K ?) Outdrive trim - is the trim reading (sender/gauge) off/inaccurate? Bravo 3 prop blades bent, dinged, etc ? (and yes - no hubs on a Bravo 3) Clutch? 🤪

    Cracked block leaking water

Looks like the JB-Weld fairy has already been there fixing the cracked block. With obvious patches visible and signs of water seepage from the lower part of the engine block, why would you think the block is not cracked ?

Dual johnson 6hp outboard on boat

In theory . . . Change in speed is not a linear relationship to change in power. Power = Force x Velocity Doubling the power may get about a 30% increase in speed. If the boat has a fairly flat bottom towards the stern, it may help.

Volvo Penta won’t run at full power

Welcome to iBoats. . . Short answer is yes. The first thing to check is the venting of the fuel tank, as it may be clogged. See if the problem goes away if you loosen the fuel fill cap slightly so air can get in. If so, then check the vent line to the tank for clogs, kinks, other obstructions.

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

My Formula 330 had the SS risers (elbows) and the iron manifolds, with closed cooling. So the coolant ran through the manifolds and the sea water ran out the SS risers . . . worked great and lasts forever (ie a long time)

    Potential project boat

Agree with the others, I would expect to find a fair amount of structural rot making a full gut and rebuild the right thing to do. If you take this on, make sure the current owner has the NY state title in hand as you will want/need it to take proper ownership of the boat. (else you won't be...

1992 (ish) Evinrude 25 HP Remote Control Repair/Replacement

Thank you. Is there any chance that a new BRP control box would work if there are adaptors for the round vs. square plugs? or are there complexities to consider?

1992 (ish) Evinrude 25 HP Remote Control Repair/Replacement

I was going to place this thread in the 'Steering & Controls' forum, but thought the Evinrude/Johnson forum might get a bit more traction. Anyway. My 13 foot Boston Whaler with 25 HP Evinrude OB (short shaft) is in need of some control box refurbishment or replacement. I'd like to...

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

There will be either raw water or coolant in the exhaust manifold. A FULL Closed Cooling system will have coolant in the manifolds. HALF Closed or RAW WATER Cooling will have the ocean/lake water in the manifolds. So, if you are running a Raw water or Half closed system (in salt water) there...

WOT for 20min and engine bogs.

So, your friend is running at WOT for 20 minutes? or is it just after 20 minutes of running the engine bogs down and won't throttle up?

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

Scales of rust flaking off the cylinder side walls reducing its thickness and eventually the pressure inside the cylinder breaks the weakened area. First example that I've seen happen, but it certainly can & does. that is one of the reasons why raw water cooled engines in salt water have a...

    Exterior vs interior plywood

Why? Because, that's why :ROFLMAO: Actually, you want the plywood to have little/no chance of delaminating. Fiberglass/resin encapsulated wood does absorb moisture (water) over time and the higher levels of moisture could lead to ply separation.

    1990 Bayliner 2651 resto

You may want to get an idea of how long (front-to-back) the fuel tank is in order to judge if the tank will come out via the engine bay by pulling it back once the bulkhead is cut. Worst case is having to cut away part of the aft berth base & bulkhead to gain the clearance needed.

Lighting questions - Chaparral 347 SSX

You had a 327 and then upgraded to the 347 ??? Basically the same boat except a bit more swim platform (right?) I don't recall exactly what brand/model, but they may have been 'ITC' brand 'tricolor' LED - water resistant. (about $44 on Amazon) I had to pry off the stainless steel bezel...

Lighting questions - Chaparral 347 SSX

Welcome to iBoats . . . I have a similar boat with the same sort of lights on the arch. I found that when they get out of sync, I needed to shut off (and then back on) the accessory power circuit breaker at the electrical panel. Seems like a nuisance, but that's how some of this new stuff is...

    Fuel tank

Welcome to iBoats . . . You should be able to get a glimpse of the fuel tank via a smaller hatch in the floor or even looking forward from the engine compartment. It would be either plastic or aluminum. (probably aluminum) there should be a certification label on the tank stating the...

    Battery low alarm

Not necessarily. Check the voltage with the battery 'at rest' nothing turned on, etc. It should be at least 12.6 volts. If, so then fine. If not, then maybe the battery is low. Maybe it is best to turn the Humming Bird on after you start the engine, since the battery voltage does drop...
