2008 Chaparral Sunesta Merc Engine Sensor Alarms

In your fault scenario, your rapidly increasing fuel demand which in turn is stressing fuel delivery system. I would change/check the fuel filter(s), make sure the fuel tank is properly vented and check fuel pressure to eliminate the possibility of a failing fuel pump

Thinking about upgrading to AGM batteries

Personally, I’d stick with lead acid. They sound better on paper, but in practice there is no concernable difference other than cost Five out of the six AGM batteries I’ve run didn’t make it out of warranty (3 yr). Shorted internally. The sixth is currently in its second year of use. The...

    Towed some Folk

Anyone been towed from the safety of the shore line out to the middle of a river and set adrift? Broke down on a friends’s boat one evening many moons ago. Ended up drifting ashore on the grounds of the Naval Academy. Minutes later, two MPs show up and told us we had to leave. We explained...

Why not mount transducer well below waterline?

Wayyyy to much turbulence........the water under my transducer is dead flat, smooth, no bubbles whatsoever. Anything that protrudes from the bottom of the hull is a potential problem. You have brackets, screw heads, rough surfaces, etc. going on. Some hulls just generate too much turbulence...

    Dead Batteries

Doubt it.....The higher the current the more potential involved. May have added some resistance (heat) but if the terminal connector fit on the post with the nut on top, you had plenty of contact area

Does anyone remember when car & boat engines only had.

Same here... had 4 bugs all told. 1963, 67, 70 and 72 convertible 1600 bugs went to 2 barrel bug spray Hard on points.....had to stop in the mountains on the way to my grandparents to adjust the points (match pack) more that once.

    Towed some Folk

There is no USCG law/reg that requires you to assist or tow a vessel unless the boat and crew is in imminent danger. Federal regulations require a Captain to assist if the crew is in danger, as long as they don't put their boat and crew in serious danger. However, the Captain in under no...

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

Found this....seems the beep code is not related to the problem rather than announcing a critical or on-critical alarm Two types of warnings are used on recent production engines: SOLID TONE: Critical Warning (shut engine down, serious problem present) FOUR BEEPS: Non-Critical Warning...

    Mercury SmartCraft Gauge Question

Gps is either a digital or serial input. I have both on my boat. Using digital as the network input What are you using for a gps heading sensor?

MPH not showing on Gage OX66 motor

Funny as it sounds, pivot tubes work on air pressure, not water. Water does not compress. Any water trapped in the line will affect gauge reading. Suggest removing both ends of the tubing and blow out with compressed air. If that doesn’t restore functionality you have a problem with the...

Why not mount transducer well below waterline?

The primary reason for a “skimming” transducer is to protect from impact damage. Forward looking (Live) and down/side scanning transducers can not be mounted in a “shoot thru” hull installation

    Getting a 2024 Merc 150 4 stroke- any surprises?

The “seasonal” users are the ones with all the problems. Motors used in commerical operation tend to fair much better. Had far fewer problems when I was putting 600-700 hours a season on the boat. Put 150 on it last year.

Inserting Stepdown Converter or Dimmer from Panel Switch?

There is no negative in and out per se in a DC circuit. Current flows in a closed loop between hot (+) and ground (-) in a DC circuit.

    Vinyl protectant/conditioner

Fortunate in that I have snap on cushions instead of upholstered seating. Tend to stay in the cabin and out of the sun most of the time. Having said that, if 303 is sticky, you're using way too much. I use it on my cushions and the tri-fold cover on the truck. Works well. Almost 7 years and...
