Inverter with shore power - Question ???

Quick update . . . It appears that the inverter figures out what it needs to do and balances shore power with inverter power. I believe it also can charge the house batteries from shore power, as needed. I am wanting to add solar power to the electrical system of the boat, since the boat will...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

Yes, the registration is figured on the weight capacity of the trailer. 15,600 capacity @ $20 per 1K . . . pretty much a rip-off. Small trailers are reasonable, but as you go big, it costs.

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

Sort of . . . the trailer registration is $300/year, so it nets out at $500 savings, and I can haul out as needed, which is something I've always wanted to do. (y)

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

Just catching up on my old thread about selling/buying. Sort of a situation of you never know how things are going to turn out. I sold my boat for asking price to a person that was the farthest away as compared to all of the other interested 'buyers'. I would have never imagined that, but...

    Mercruiser 8.2 w/Cats & Closed Cooling Question

Just to follow-up on this thread for anyone doing the newer Merc 8.2 in salt water. Definitely half closed cooled and I've seen social media posts about twin engine exhaust system replacements costing $12-15K (marina pricing). Really a fresh water engine - seems crazy to want to run that...

    Leaking Antifreeze after Winterizing

BTW - @Thelenc4 can you post a picture (or text) of the winterizing instructions that you were following/referring to?

    Leaking Antifreeze after Winterizing

What model year is the boat/engine? The comments/concerns posted by Paul, Grub, and Lou may be correct, because the Antifreeze going into the engine does not displace all of the water in the engine on a 1-for-1 basis. It is a mixing process where the AF mixes within the engine block with the...

    Leaking Antifreeze after Winterizing

Looks like you will need to wait until warmer temperatures (spring time) to inspect the engine compartment. Can you tell if the leak came from the plug opening or from the outdrive?

    Leaking Antifreeze after Winterizing

Snorkels - do you mean what are commonly called 'earmuffs'? So, draining the water initially did not really do anything, since you ran the boat (with a supply of water) to get it up to temperature (right?) Does it appear that the AF came from the transom plug opening or from the outdrive...

    Leaking Antifreeze after Winterizing

Greetings and Welcome to iBoats . . . Is this your first winterization? You drained all the water from the engine. How did you get the engine up to the proper temperature ??? (more water running through it?) Then you ran the antifreeze (right?) What is the typical and lowest temperature in...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Here is a close-up picture of the original (left) and the re-make (right) with the Nautolex Beacon fabric and full French Seam. . This was my first shot at doing a French seam (aka double stitch seam). The seat backrests and the bow coping have French seams as well, so I'll be well practiced...

Can you check compression on a cold outboard?

+1 to cold compression tests . . . not that I recommend them, but some schools of thought prefer a cold test to a warm test. Just be sure to have the throttle wide open for either test.

    LED Bulb trips breaker

My only thought is that the LED bulb is initially placing a high capacitive load (ie looking like a capacitor) when first being powered and the circuit breaker is seeing that as an overload. Is this a GFI breaker? Have you tried a 'slow' CB ( ie a time delay CB) ?

Air don't freeze... RV antifreeze DOES!

People see the -50˚F or the -75˚F and think it is the freeze point. It is actually a 'pipe burst' rating and, as has been tested and shown, the AF does start to freeze and expand well above the burst rating. What I have found is that with plastic components (fittings, valves, strainers...

Need help deciding!! Wakeboard boat vs bow rider!?!

Greetings, @fordfamily78 and welcome to iBoats. (I like Fords) :D Wake board boat vs. bowrider ??? The wakeboard boats (even ski boats) are special purpose . . . they are designed to do one thing well and may not do other things as well. Bowriders are more general purpose boats and they...

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Yes, the Beacon pattern has a nice texture. The Diamante does as well, but I like the Nautolex's texture better.

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

I did the first of the DARK GRAY sidewall pieces today. As I mentioned, I made a real french seam, replacing the 'faux' french seam in the OEM piece. Here are a couple pictures of the new and the original (old). . . Here is a closer picture showing the difference . . . The OEM material...
