    axle repair sleeve question

Loctite is a bear to remove. They used to recommend a non-hardening sealer under them to prevent moisture from getting under them. I've used # 2 permatex with good results in the past

    1997 johnson 150 ocean runner

Ive managed a Service Department for the past 25 years. Know how many times I've heard I'm 100% confident in this situation? It ran before you did the work but doesn't now....your missing something

    1997 johnson 150 ocean runner

Three bad fuel pumps isn't coincidence. Time to start at the beginning. Are you 100% sure of the work you did to the carbs? Floats set to the right height? Fuel lines to the carbs get mixed up? Throughly inspect every component in the fuel delivery system from tank to carbs. Make sure...

Easier time putting on the trailer

Must be a local thing. Can't think of a single facility that takes issue with power loading. Pretty much the norm around here.

    Fuel efficiency for long-ish trip

My boat is similar size and weight as yours but with a 200 HP carb outboard with 147 gallon fuel capacity. Been running FlowScan system for 10 years now. When calculating fuel consumption I use 2 mpg which includes the customary 30% fuel reserve. A 80 mile leg for me would run ~ 2.7 hours...

Should the prop have any play

Guessing you meant 55 ft/lbs of torque ;) Really need to follow the manufacturers specification for a particular motor. The spec for my motor/prop is 80 ft/lbs.

    Adding ballast to the bow?

Got looking again.....what are you calling a "bracket". The brackets I'm familiar with are sealed floatation cambers that bolt to the transom. Used to offset the motor from the boat to allow the prop to run in "clean" water Looks like the motor is bolted to the transom. Has the old style open...

    Marine hand held radio

Could just be me, but would expect an experienced Offshore Captain to have a firm grasp of everything boating. You, your wife and 2 small kids are out boating on Lake Roundincircles. Lake Roundincircles is a small, by some standards, 20,000 acre freshwater lake in a rural part of the country...

    Marine hand held radio

I just looked at this unit again. I was under the impression that they couldn't sell VHF radios w/o DSC functionality anymore. Unit is 3W, 25W is normal and it doesn't include DSC functionality which is the whole point of VHF to begin with. Pretty much an expensive weather radio Digital...

Steering issues on a SeaStar steering

Just proves your rod ends are not leaking. Double ended cylinder with supply and return on opposing ends. Piston and seals sit mid shaft.

    Charging system Not Working?

That not how you test a rectifier circuit. A rectifier is simply two sets of diodes opposing each other. In short, you should be able to read continuity between input (AC) and output (DC) direction on way and little to not continuity reading the other way. If this tests out, you may have a...

    White Ground wire

Doubling up the number of wires and connections increases liability? MTBF studies say otherwise Sticking the light's ground tab under the head of a mounting screw in a thru hole installation is not a proper ground connection. The first thing I do on any new trailer is to drill, tap and install...

Steering issues on a SeaStar steering

The helm is simply a pump. It's possible you blew a seal(s) in the cylinder, but not lkely How old is the steering system?

    Adding ballast to the bow?

The hole is a drain. The bracket is a buoyancy device. The hole should be plugged unless the bracket has leaked and needs drained As are mine. I get no water at all coming into the cockpit, even with 3 guys fishing off the transom Having a hard time envisioning. Are you saying there is no...
