    How many boats is enough?

    1st Boat/First Thread/First Everything lol. Need help

Yes, definitely a 'flat water' boat. Not sure a bow cover will work for a deck boat . . . bow canvas is more of a bowrider thing.

    Oil type

Welcome to iBoats . . . It is a GM engine. That's where V-P get their base engines. Mercruiser gets some of their base engines from GM as well. You can Google the oil spec for the engine. You might want to see about getting a service manual for the engine if you are going to do the...

Determining Whether or not to Rebuild 1990 17' Larson

You would be able to rebuild this boat better than it was coming out of the factory. Looks like it was put together using chopper guns.

Determining Whether or not to Rebuild 1990 17' Larson

Looks kind of nasty down below. Think of the money Larson saved making that boat :rolleyes:

    Overhauled 4.3

It can be a concern, if (if) the boat is being sold because of the overhaul. As mentioned, you will have to due diligence to determine if all is good with the engine. I would not be as concerned if the engine had a few years of use after the overhaul. More so if it was a fairly recent...

Determining Whether or not to Rebuild 1990 17' Larson

Welcome to iBoats . . . although you signed up a while ago. Here are my comments to you questions. 1. Is there anyone who has chosen to sell their boat, rather than repair it? If so, How did you go about that process, given its condition? It would be a tough sell even if it were free. That...

Chips in the gel coat on hull. Is it an issue?

Buy a gelcoat patch kit, and even a half pint can of gelcoat if you have many spots to repair. Watch a few YouTube videos on gelcoat repair/patching and pay yourself the $100/hour. (y):D

MerCruiser 4.3 Fuel Problem (I think)

Greetings and welcome to iBoats . . . There are many possibilities, but a couple things come to mind that you can look into. It will be a process of elimination until you find the cause. It sounds like fuel starvation, possible causes are. . . - Fuel tank vent line may be clogged. - Check...

    Plywood floor replacement...Questions

As far as joining the floor to the side of the hull where the two meet . . . you are going to need strength more than adhesion. Else the boat's structure will be weak(er). It is best to fill any gaps in the joint with Peanut Butter, then go over the joint with a layer or 2 of 1708 bi-axial...

4.3 GL-G Squeaking Noise, Please Help

You can use a pipe or mechanics stethoscope to isolate the source of the noise. Until then it is a guessing game.

    Painting in Cuddy

Not a latex . . . 2-part polyurethane paint or a good quality 1-part topside paint. look for marine paints.

    Sewing Machines

I am not an expert on the Singer line of industrial machines, and I did not look at any when I was buying. So, you will have to do some Googling to verify the specific features of the 211G157, which I believe is what you mentioned. Critical features would be adjustable stitch length and reverse.

    Sewing Machines

Technically it is his thread, but you and he have the same question. Are you guys friends? Neighbors perhaps? The Singer 211 is a walking foot/compound feed and is one of the machines listed earlier in this thread. I see a few on eBay with motor/table for $600-$800. Decent price @ $600 IMO.

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

Nice going . . . See what the motor oil looks like. A cylinder leak test could indicate (or not) if it is a head gasket . . or even a cracked cylinder head. Otherwise a cooling system pressure test would indicate cracked block, head, or manifold. It would be best to do testing before...
