    How many wires are connected to your alternator? Mercruiser engines at one time had 1 wire alternators like AD posted. I think you have a OMC engine that used Prestolite alternators which have a remote mounted regulator. Post a picture of your alternator.

    That is a Holley. One way to tell is the small split in the base of the mounting plate near the contact points. You might have to contact Petronics as I could not find a Holley kit listed in the Sierra catalog.

    If there is a drain screw below the intermediate ball gear shaft then the housing has been changed some time after 78. That is good for you. The shaft may have the double tapered bearings. However you need to fill it from the bottom.
