Pics of my prop hubs and gear oil. First time questions.

Doesn't need to be in the water. The moisture trapped in the splines is more than enough to enable the process on dry land. “New” means nothing……zincs are not fond of being taken in and out of the water. Tend to oxide over when exposed to air. I changed over to aluminum a while back. Check ohm...

Pics of my prop hubs and gear oil. First time questions.

Could be but you said the prop was reconditioned last year. The white powder is galvanic corrosion. Salt or fresh? Zinc or aluminum? Test ohm reading between prop and anode. Should be less than one

Pics of my prop hubs and gear oil. First time questions.

Don’t like the looks of the galvanic corrosion on the prop? Will live another year but you need to find out why they are corroded so bad. Keep in a slip? Zincs good? Your LU ground strap still connected?

Downsides of buying an IO Saltwater boat in the north east?

Depends on the build quality of the boat..... If the boat was built for saltwater use, you should only have to deal with possible drive issues. If the boat was built for "freshwater" use, sitting in salt air for a couple of seasons can and will take it's toll on hardware (railings, latches...

Advice for Smith Mountain Lake, VA

The two species don't have much in common other than "Bass" in their name. Unlike Large Mouth, Stripers are school fish.......you typically have to go find them, or more precisely, go find the bait they are feeding on. Live lining (live bait) or deep jigging are the primary means of catching...

    Humid/Dirty Boat

Keep a boat in a slip for one season many moons ago. Never again. Spent more time maintaining than boating. Ended up replacing the boat with one designed for “outdoor use” to eliminate the need for a cover. Keep the boat on the trailer at the marina. Just hosed it down (saltwater) at the end of...

Understanding Moisture Readings on a Marine Survey?

“The term reference scale is used for a moisture meter reading mode wherein the meter takes qualitative readings as opposed to quantitative readings. These readings are shown as a numerical value which the user can then use to estimate whether that material is “wet” or “dry.” It is important to...

    Bunk Bolts

Depends on your bunk material. If the bunks are pressure treated, they recommend hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel fasteners. Hot-dipped must meet American (ASTM) A153 Class D standards and stainless steel should be grade 304 or 316

    Brake Line Material Type?

I’ve not “made” brake lines in years. Bought pre-made (double flare) stainless a couple of times. Installed rubber lines on current setup. I would go with Cupronickel tubing for brake lines if I had to make them myself.
