Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Looking in to it a bit more, it looks like your units is only 500W What water depths and transducer are you running? Mfg. depth claims are widely exaggerated and typically punctuated with lots of small print. Not getting anywhere close to 1,000 feet with a 500W unit

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Locally we call that a “false” bottom. Good things come when your depth alarm goes off in 50’ of water ;) A bench test means little. How did they simulate a fish passing under your transducer? An 8 hour “bench test” will catch overheating components. The chances of catching an “induced”...

Lowrance HDS9 Gen 2 Touch issue

Nothing to do with depth….how deep where you when you took the picture? In manual or auto? New installation? Do it with motor and or ignition off?

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

Maryland is $102 every two years for a trailer up to #5k. $160 every two years for up to a #20K trailer. You can register trailers elsewhere with conditions. I pay $90 every 5 years

    Replacing Trim Tab Actuators

I can think of two good reasons...... Galling (SS) and galvanic corrosion I'm a firm believer in don't fix what is not broken

In my usage, “press” is a noun (fit), not a verb.

Charging batteries in boat with ACR

I leave the switch “off” and hook the charger to the “house” battery simply because I don’t need an extension cord to plug the charger in.

    Windows 11 yes/no?

No reason to put up with either. Most, if not all app usage in Windows 10 is user configurable. I have not used IE in I don't know how many years. Switched to Firefox and never looked back. Lots of privacy tools not available for IE

    UFP Trailer Buddy retaining ring

Use a center punch or similar tool to displace material in the bore to reduce the internal clearance. I use 3 “dimples”, 120 degrees apart. If worst comes to worst loc-tite blue works wonders While a big hammer will work, the chances damaging the bore with an “out of square drive” are greatly...

    Grease seal thickness

Here is the seal that I use. https://www.motionindustries.com/products/sku/01299534 Note the 7 psi pressure tolerance.... A bearing buddy is setup to relief pressure at 3 psi Do yourself a favor and mic the sealing surface. There is more than one shoulder diameter for a "standard" 1-3/8" shaft...

    Grease seal thickness

The seal is the most overlooked piece of the puzzle and the route of most evils…lol Two issues with seals 1. Installer ignorance or error. Pound and go….no dimensional or surface quality inspection. Sealing surfaces require very specific diameters and surface finishes. 2. Quality parts… most...

    UFP Trailer Buddy retaining ring

If you have 1.9XX” hubs, 2.047 is going to press. If the new protector doesn’t press, just “stake” the protector in place. Easy to do and very effective means of retaining bearings in housings

    Moisture meters & used boats

While I have the measurement sensor “experts” attention….lol I saw an ad the other day for touch less (non-contact) digital calipers. Said to accurate to within 0.01% of measured thickness. How is this physically possible let alone be accurate to the 6th decimal point?
