1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

The only "stainless" steel when used in saltwater is 316 Stainless steel. 304 stainless will "rust" in short order in a marine (saltwater) environment.

    Hummingbird Depth Finder question

If it does it while tied to the dock, you have a bad transducer. I wouldn't connect the old head unit unless you've confirmed the transducer frequency and output power are the same as your old unit. You would not be happy with the results of a mix matched pairing ;)

    AM/FM Radio Issue.

The charger on my boat is about as cheap as it gets ($4 Walmart) and it doesn’t have this problem. Even if the box is noisy, the radio shouldn’t be picking up the signal unless you have a grounding issue.

115 Pro XS CT 4 stroke losing RPM and speed

Conditions (wind and tide) play a huge roll in fuel usage. Especially on craft with as much windage as a pontoon. I’m running a boat designed to run in adverse conditions. My fuel usage almost doubles going from flat calm to a 2’ chop.

    Hummingbird Depth Finder question

Turbulence is the only thing that would cause a transducer to fluctuate that wildly. Different transducers have different performance characteristics. Unless you replaced the old with the same transducer don’t count on it being installed correctly. Could have gotten a bad transducer right out...

Buying a boat with 05 F225s - what to look for?

I've yet to see a salt run motor that is "corrosion" free. Having said that, the picture on the bottom looks more like calcium spotting than corrosion.

Tilt solenoid issue or bad wiring?

Relays typically work or they don't. I would start by cleaning up all the contacts in the circuit and see where it takes you

Motor and Tilt stopped working - other electronics good

Your battery is dead. Have the battery load tested to confirm the prognosis A good, fully charged 12 volt battery is 12.7 volts. A battery is “dead” at 12.0 volts. A 12.4 surface charge isn’t going to cut it

Should I add a fuel filter?

Depends on if your tank is permanent or portable. Every manufacturer these days recommends the use of at least a 10 micron coalescing (water separator) fuel filter on the incoming supply from a permanently mounted tank. The inline "rock and stick catching" filters are 30 micron at best. Water...

    Gas Appearing in bilge

Did you actually see gas or just smell it? A 2000 model year boat is long over due to have all the fuel lines replaced. If you think changing fuel lines is a PITA, try replacing a fuel tank. Its also about the time for the fill hose to dry rot and start permeating fumes through the outer...

    Bilge pump issue

The picture is your live well pump. Bilge pump is typically under the splash well. Accessible through a deck plate. Main accessories panel is usually inside the helm/cuddy. Look on bulkhead inside helm console

    Broken tongue bolt.

Most are bolted on. Yes. Most are bolted on. Grade 8 hardware with locking nuts or… cut full length spacers to fit over bolts inside tubing. Allows you to torque the bolts and not crush the tubing in the process

    Getting water in tank

I can see the need if using non-ethanol fuel, but why add more alcohol if running E10? E10 is the best daily use moisture absorbent on the market ;)

Mercury Carbureted vs Fuel injection timeline

Your comparing a 2 cylinder 40 to a 6 cylinder 200. Your 40 might not be too bad, but look at the oil/fuel stain mine left from idling for less than 5 minutes. This is the residue after two rain storms
