Whats the consensus using plastic slips under an aluminum painted hull!

In some respects launching has to do with the depth and angle of the ramp. My experience is that most people back in TOO FAR, and thus have the boat floating when they pull it out. The, go back in over and over again and never get it straight. I never see anyone that doesn't back in far...

Whats the consensus using plastic slips under an aluminum painted hull!

My opinion is don't, but not because of Amazon. I once bought a brand new Starcraft tinny. It came with a bunk trailer. The boat was my fishing rig and it had to be a solo launch. I could not push that sucker off the crappy carpeted bunks by myself. Since I had stellar performance on my FG...

    Evinrude motor Purchase?

Truth is nobody really knows what's in store. BRP was very clear in their press release. They are out of business and won't be handling outboards any more, not even warranties. They "hired" Brunswick's Mercury marine to handle that for them. I would guess that when the last warranty runs out...

    Awful Boat-Outboard Mismatch.-

Pictures are not showing all that is needed to be seen. It looks like the motor is mounted on a "bracket" of sorts, mounted / built onto the back of the hull. Thus, the 15.7" is a meaningless number, and does not really represent the "transom height". Does the hull protrude below the bottom...

    2005 16' Duroboat won't trim up

Yup. That's why we said to use a straight edge right at the beginning. I don't personally know of a fix here, but maybe someone more experienced in aluminum boat repairs will chime in. The boat is still usable, just don't go too fast. If it were mine, and in the absence of a recommended fix...

    1978 115 hp Evinrude

Evinrude went out of business in 2019. More OMC parts are available than any other outboard. That said, the cost to fix a 42 year old motor with that many problems will be more than it is worth.

    2005 16' Duroboat won't trim up

What do you mean by cavitating? From the pics, it looks like the motor is too low, but the picture angle isn't right. Take a pic from behind the motor, showing exactly where the anti-ventilation plate is in line with the keel. Looks like a real nice rig. We'll get her figured out!

    2005 16' Duroboat won't trim up

If possible, move some weight aft. Also, you might try a set of fixed trim tabs. That may sound counter-intuitive, but you might be surprised. I had a boat once that wouldn't accept ANY trim. With the tabs adjusted slightly downward it would take FULL trim. Granted, my problem was...

    2005 16' Duroboat won't trim up

It may have been built straight, but improper storage may have deformed the hull. You need to crawl under the boat and make a close inspection with a long straight edge. What is the maximum rated HP for the boat?

    max Horsepower rating

The requirements may be state specific. My homeowners insurance will only cover boats with an outboard of 25 HP or less, and a max boat speed of (I think) 35 mph. So, I have free riders covering my little boats, but all the others need separate policies. And of course, my PWC is a case all in...

    max Horsepower rating

The manufacturers test the boats they sell and set the HP based on what their engineers / safety experts tell them. They want you to buy their boats, but they also know that if its unsafe and you have an accident because of speed you will sue the pants off of them. Sure, its partly weight on...

    max Horsepower rating

According to the internet it's illegal. If you want a second opinion, ask your attorney and/or the captain of your local marine police patrol. I was going to say call your insurance agent, but nix that. Just call up Geico marine and ask them.

    max Horsepower rating

If you look at all boating forums, there is one thread that comes up almost daily, and accounts for the most asked question. It is, (paraphrasing): "Can I grossly overpower my little boat?" The answer is always the same. In my 65 years as a boater I've witnessed some real doozies. Many of...

    Johnson Seahorse 3hp JW-16

Awesome old motor. Still looks good for being 60 years old. It's not particularly collectable, so a Johnson guy probably already has one. If a guy wants a cheap kicker, he'll look for cheep, so he won't pay much. I agree with 150-200. If someone is willing to pay 3500, they can come to my...

HAHAHA......that's the one thing you need to me most concerned about. If the Insurer inspects the boat and finds it over powered you might be left uninsured. A buddy of mine had an accident and was underinsured...his judgement will leave him poor for life.....never own a boat or a house. Any...

    1970s Mako 17

The crack is a lot more than cosmetic. The soft floor in a boat of that construction is a huge deal. It's not an $800 boat, its an $8,000 boat if you want it safe and seaworthy.

    Boat recomendations for Lake Ontario....

A biggin. Needs to have a kicker and a real good GPS / Chartplotter and a compass. If the wind blows up and the lake turns over, and the fog is so thick you can't even see the bow, you will need to have all the waypoints in advance so you can find your way home. All kidding aside, minimum 25...

    Lauson motor?

Twin cylinder, 6 HP made 1954-1956. They made singles and twins for a short time before being bought out by Tecumseh, who discontinued the outboards. Parts availability now is slim. It has a limited collector market Figure $50 as a wallhanger for someone's man cave, or up to $200 if you can...

    Lauson motor?

A Lauson was a very early 4-stroke outboard. Probably from the 1950's. Post the model number and we can narrow it down. They are not the rarest, but they do hold some collector appeal. Might be worth a couple hundred.

    Sad Day Yesterday

I wasn't sure about retirement, but the covid confirmed the decision. The spread thru my old plant was heavy. If I was still working I would either have been infected, or required to be there way more than I would have liked. The wife lost her job and her business. The good part was that she...
