    Fog

We frequently boat (fish) in Lake Ontario. Deep Lake, cold water, hot at the surface. All it takes is a slight wind to make the lake "turn over". Fog so dense you can't see the bow. Gotta go to work, Saturday fishing is the only option. The fog is out, don't want to go home. The first...

    Boat gauges inboard vs. outboard

There has to be a "wire" someplace coming from a sensor. Where do you find that elusive little guy? Recent engines have an ECM. Old ones don't. How old is the engine? Need more Info.

    Prop size

70 HP Outboards don't come from the factory with a prop. The selection is made after the application is known. Go to the "Yamaha Outboard Motor Prop Selection Tool", insert your data and the app will tell you what you need.

    Plywood cover for open bow

If I were to ever post an odd idea on a forum, and were to get lambasted up and down 100% by everyone on the forum, I would then either take the sage advice, or go ahead and do it anyway.....quietly. To post on another forum to try and get validity from a different group of people fits the...

What is involved in removing center live well from 2017 tracker panfish 16?

I trip over tackle boxes, fishing rods, PFD's, etc., etc. Not just because I'm in my 70's; I always was klutzy....LOL. The Livewell in my current fishing boat was an option. Never put a fish in it, but it's an awesome seat and it holds an abundant amount of "stuff" that won't be tripped over...

    Marine Growth Took Over.-

Been there, done that. The all roller trailer, power winch and ease of backing into a 5 car garage, for me, trumps all the necessary cleaning, taking stuff home and struggling with a cover while the boat is in the water. When people looked at my 35 year old garage kept boat and commented that...

    Awful Boat-Outboard Mismatch.-

From the pic I can't tell where the wash is passing. If it is truly under #2, then OK, the boat should run acceptably without the churning identified in the first post. However, if fuel consumption is an issue, and the operator isn't pulling toys, and thus doesn't need to make 90 degree rapid...

    Awful Boat-Outboard Mismatch.-

The seat height may be a moot point. Changing the propulsion source may have upset the planing attitude. Sounds like its a standup boat now. I don't like hydraulic steering either. I have only owned one, and the response is not as fast as a cable system. Of course, if you are used to tiller...

    Marine Growth Took Over.-

Got ya beat. Two cars, two boats and a jetski. Never even have to unhitch if I'm going back out tomorrow. Messes aren't tolerated....

Fresh water beats the sea, and stored on a trailer in a cozy garage beats everything.

    What shaft size?

The distance from the top of the transom mount to the AV plate on a long shaft motor is 22" for most motors. The Sea Nymph in the photo is typical of how most manufacturers build transoms for long shaft motors. Although we all recognize 15, 20 and 25" motor designations, the transom dimensions...

    New Boat

My last 2 brand new outboard boats came from the factory set up optimally. Not only the prop selection, but the engines were raised on the transom for optimum AV plate positioning. If you look at those company web sites, they also had performance curves documenting their experimenting and...

    New Boat

Its a freekin brand new boat. The OP shouldn't be asking the web, he should be complaining to the dealer.

    NEED Stern LIFT Prop Suggestions

If it doesn't have a fin on now, adding one might help correct the problem. I didn't suggest that in the first place since for your specific issue trim tabs may be the better option. If you DO have a fin on now, removing it will probably make it worse.

    Awful Boat-Outboard Mismatch.-

My short shaft Mercs measure 17", my long shafts measure 22" and my one Extra Long shaft measures 27". That's measuring from the lowest possible mounting hole to the AV plate. If the 26" dimension in your pic is correct, if you visually scale the picture the setback looks more like 18", not...

What is involved in removing center live well from 2017 tracker panfish 16?

In addition to the other good comments, after removal you may need to install a board or something on the deck where the livewell used to be. There probably will be some holes there, plus you don't know how far the carpet goes.

Whats the consensus using plastic slips under an aluminum painted hull!

Yes, they are very hard. But they do "wear" a bit on the surface. The best way to describe it would be to use the analogy of chalking of house paint. There is a slight "dust" film on the surface that is easily wiped off. I see no affect at all on the boat's hull.

Absolute Noob seeking advice and knowledge.

Boats are not "positive displacement" like a car. For example, if you are moving at 6 mph against a 6 mph current, you are standing still while burning up a lot of gas. Thus, lots of factors to consider. Also, as the boats get larger and the engines bigger you don't calculate MPG you...

Absolute Noob seeking advice and knowledge.

Back in my youth, over 50 years ago, I bought a boat as well. At the time, I didn't even drive a car. In those days they had a building in each town that had racks of paper things with words written on them. I used to go to mine to study things. Haven't been there since 1982 when I got my...
