    Outboard Painting

The 'rude in post #6 was painted with North York acrylic enamel rattle can paint. It currently costs $22.50 (CDN). The US counterpart is about 20 bucks these days. It was painted about 15 years ago and hasn't needed to be touched up yet. Of course, it has only been run in the water maybe 30...

    Outboard Painting

Beautiful job. I like the design - a one-of-a-kind. (I like your workshop too) Surely, a professional spray gun and hardened paint is the best way to go. But not everyone has the ability to do that. I find that a good enamel holds up pretty well. Mine are all kept original - paint and...

    Replacing keel roller with boat

Yes of course, there is no tongue weight since the boat is propped up. I meant tongue weight before propping. Regardless, I did that as well and the tongue would not go down by itself because the back of the boat was pushing down on the back of the trailer, which in turn pushed the front up...

    Should I purchase a 60HP 1969 Johnson hydro-electric shift outboard motor?

I agree 100%. And that's after owning 2 of the blasted things. My personal experience would indicate that they are NOT that reliable. The worst part is that repairing them are outside my wheelhouse, and finding a mechanic to work on them was nearly impossible. And that was years ago. Today...

    Outboard Painting

You can use a brush if you like. If your intention is to protect the metal, but don't care if it looks like crap, then go for it. Your problem, though, is keeping the paint on if you intend to put the engine on a boat and use it in the water. Even if you simply intend to display a motor on a...

    What's too old to consider?

A guy down the street from me bought a brand new boat. The wife didn't like boating. It sat beside the house half uncovered for 5 years with very little use. It looked like crap. Then one day I see him power polishing, with a friend inside working on the upholstery. Then they changed the...

    Question of HP

Since that's below the operating range for that motor it explains the poor hole shot. You can go up to 6000.

Should you polish a Prop or not

One year we spent a week at our usual vacation spot with the boat tied to floating docks. The water was several feet high and the main dock was under water. When I pulled the boat out my zincs were real bad and my brand new polished SS prop was not too shiny any more. I suspect a power line...

    Kicker motor

Tracker's 2021 literature shows several kicker options, and they are all extra long shaft. I don't know if the motor mount came with the kicker package, or if it was standard on the boat. What is further unknown is what they did in the 2000 model year. Performance wise, the engine can be...

    Replacing keel roller with boat

Good idea, unless there is a proper tongue weight or the rollers are not already contacting the keel. In that case, once the keel contacts the wood, the trailer tongue won't go down any more and you will not have gained any ground.

    Replacing keel roller with boat

The keel is the strongest part of the hull. If it isn't, then the boat is rotten and compromised and isn't much good anyway. That's why keel rollers are intended to support the hull , not (LOL) so you don't hit the frame (LOL). (Of course, I would place a carpet or block of wood on the jack...

    Question of HP

That's a good one. I like it. That's going into my book of "Quotes of the Day". Truth be told, the weight capacities are just guides as well. My buddy's wife insists that she has to go fishing with him ALL the time. And she's so fat she exceeds the recommendations for most every boat in...

    Question of HP

That ETec is a powerful engine. It should run circles around the old Merc. Tach it out and put on the correct prop and it'll be alright. To answer your original question, a new 50 HP 4-stroke would be an appropriate replacement. Be sure to install a tach on the boat, and then prop it so that...

    Newbie few trailer issues

No its not true. Back in the golden age of trailer boating the experts wrote books on how to set up a trailer. Today people don't read instruction manuals any more, plus boats come as package deals and nobody uses rollers any more (except those that pay extra for a property built trailer). An...

    Replacing keel roller with boat

Secure the trailer to the TV. Loosen the winch cable. Jack up the boat with a good jack and then replace the rollers. Leave them in the down position and then lower the boat. Put the jack under the roller brackets, one at a time and raise them up until you feel firm contact on the keel...

    AOL Broken

In my working years I used to write computer code. Hence my frustration here not being able to solve a seemingly simple problem. When you made the "upgrade" and I had the initial problem, I did a lot of things and eventually crashed my computer. It was a Win 8 that had been upgraded to Win...

    New boat advice

Options are abundant. We chose the optional split bow rail because we sometimes beach. A full bow rail is also available. We also chose a a full cushion over the bow casting platform so the wife can lie down in the sun. Also, just in front of the console is a cooler with a cushioned seat...
