    Fishfinder help...

No.....CHIRP is a great technology but expensive. Pretty easy to spend $1,000 on a transducer alone. With the performance and cost comes the urge for marketing types to exploit the public’s ignorance of the technology to their advantage. Suddenly every units that is capable of operating at...

    Conventional Casting reels

Same here. Worked good for me until I took up surf casting. Learned pretty quickly why guys use thumb chaps and band-aids...lol

    Conventional Casting reels

This is what "doing it by the book" buys you... burnt spool shims. The top shim got so hot that it "burned" the shim behind it as well. Have gotten a few come in for repair where they burned thru the first shim working on the second.

    Fishfinder help...

Do yourself favor and forget all the "TM" features and buy yourself a simple conventional sonar with the largest screen you want to afford. When it comes to sonar, I have just about every bell and whistle on the market, but relay on conventional (CHIRP) sonar for day to day usage. Good time...

    I/Os in salt water...

Happy Harbor guy? Keep my first boat (I/O) on the trailer at Breezy Point Marina. Weekends in a slip....weekdays on the trailer. Loved the boat......who didn't love their first boat, but far too much work keeping up with motor and drive issues. Keep it for two seasons then sold it for an...

    I/Os in salt water...

Where are you going to keep the boat? Fresh or raw water cooled motors? Huge difference in salinity (0.5 - 30 ppt) between the tidal Potomac (Wilson Bridge), the Bay Bridge (Annapolis) and the Solomons area. Need paint at any location unless your on a lift.

    Conventional Casting reels

Well, they do...lol . As noted earlier, Abu uses a number of bearing and spool configurations. Each are tuned and controlled differently. The reel I posted above has an Ultracast spool. The knobs on the ends of the spool are used to center the spool in the frame. They have no effect on spool...

    Conventional Casting reels

He is side loading (distorting) the spool shaft to create friction. Not a good thing, could even damage reels with spool mounted bearings. You would be much farther ahead to start out with a full compliment of brakes blocks, if need be, and work your way down

    Conventional Casting reels

You see his method of adjusted parroted all the time but I strongly disagree. Using the knobs to control spool tension not only compromises distance by increasing free spool friction, it also puts excessive preload on the bearings shortening life expectancy. Abu uses multiple bearing and spool...

    Help with mounting my transducer

I’m not seeing a stepped hull. Looks like your typical deep V to me. Your mounting plate is way too far off the center line of the hull. It should be roughly the length of the board closer to the center line and parallel to the deadrIse My side viewing transducer is roughly 6” off the prop...

    Help with mounting my transducer

What happened to your transducers? Never damaged one in all my years of boating. What transducer are you mounting? There are a number that fit your unit. Only comment at this point.....don't like how or where your plate is oriented. Too far from center of prop..........appears to protrude...

    Ss windshield brace

Yep.....have a good friend who till this day has stitch marks on his forehead from the time we where trying to beat a storm back to port in his 18' tri-hull. Took one over the bow that bent the supports, folding the windshield back into his face. A young and dumb move for sure, but the...

Any tricks to get Aluminum transom to tighten up post Tig?

You could anneal and hammer it out to a point. To prevent cracking, you first need to anneal the area first. If your working with a 5XXX series (marine) aluminum as I suspect, your looking at 650 F to anneal. See methodology below...

    Trim O-rings

O-rings have shelf lines with specific storage requirements, ie no sun light (UV) ozone (electric motors), temperature controlled, etc. I would be leery of buying a “cheap” kit off the internet w/o date codes. These guys sell in bulk (may still cheaper) but they list all orings by AS number...
