    1961 Johnson 10hp - QD 22 - Leak

Absolutely normal for a motor running in a tank. And Sea Foam makes it worse than ever. The question is asked here very often.

    1969 Johnson 55

Spark is weak? While it was state of the art in 1969, many would consider it "weak" compared to the 1/2" lightning strikes made by todays systems. Hey, at least you have spark, so that is encouraging. Have you pulled the flywheel and serviced the parts underneath?

1957 Thunderbird Warrior - 1962 Evinrude Starflite IV - Intro

"Notoriously hard to tune". Reckon how much of that is due to the fact that most people just don't understand how stuff works? Especially old stuff? Hey, I was a dealer mechanic when that motor was new. Even way back then, I had to go to school to learn how the electrical system worked. And...

Sync cam throttle on 71 Johnson 25hp

As for the cam, those are very difficult to get "Just Right" on that model, as you have found out. I say get it as best you can and don't fret over it. Now, let's talk about that momentary cutting out at high speeds. I seriously doubt the cam has anything to do with that. Can you give us a...

    Prop won’t spin, please help!

No water discharge? Sounds like a broken drive shaft. Remove the lower unit for a looksee.

    Broken Choke Detent

Yeah, I've replaced a bunch in "The Day" also. Likewise, I don't remember the exact details, but I sort of think it's a matter of squeezing it or something. Agreed, it's too many $$$$ to break it.

Pre red plug Simplex controls to red plug motor?

    1060 Evinrude fisherman 5.5hp

puff,, if you are asking if the key is supposed to fill the slot in the cam, no. Just the tip of the key "catches" the cam slot.

Sierra Spark Plug Boot Fitment to Champion Plugs

Hm-m-m--m, could it be that they are sending boots that are intended to fit the coil ends of the wires on newer motors????? (0580339 fits coil end)

Sierra Spark Plug Boot Fitment to Champion Plugs

Just face it, the Sierra boots are wrong. They have made a change along the line somewhere. Sierra boots used to be blue and fit ok, but some people complained about the non-authentic color. So obviously there has been a change. I hope they will recall and fix the problem. Kind of reminds...

What year outboard is this Super Seahorse 40hp?

Everybody puts these things in a barrel, then assumes the scunge coming out is gear oil. Just sayin'

1972 Evinrude 9225m - speed control lever issue

Yes, James, that is the idle speed knob.

1972 Evinrude 9225m - speed control lever issue

The knob at the "elbow" where the tiller arm pivots upward is the idle speed limiter. It determines how far you can turn the twist grip toward the "slow/stop" direction. With that set at whatever idle speed you desire, you must push the stop button to kill the ignition to stop the motor (NOT...

Water coming out of mid section 1978 75hp

It is NORNAL for water to come out behind the lower mount brackets. But maybe not that much. It is water that has escaped from the water pump housing where the shaft passes through. If it were not drained off, it would rise up and damage the powerhead. Yeah, check those water pump seals.

    electrical

Can't speak for all "modern" outboards, but for the vast majority, if not all, the charging circuit is not fused.

    Carb float drop

Actually, the float should never drop clear down to "Maximum" while running.

    1958 18hp Fastwin Cuts Out

    1. Because it is pumping air from the crankcase---AND the crankcase contains fuel& oil. In other words normal. 2. Smoke in the tank. Well sort of normal. Again, leaking into the crankcase. If the motor "lean sneezes" (fuel exploding in the crankcase), it will blow smoke into the tank from...
