    1971 25hp run J4J Champion? Or ....

That 25 is a souped up motor running at high rpm. I'd say those j8c plugs could get hot enough to cause pre-ignition and burn pistons. It might not happen but why chance it?

1963 10hp Johnson QD-24 Flywheel rotating the mag plate

The notch is used in the manufacturing process. The ring you are moving will be loose and sloppy when the mag plate is not installed. Some people, not knowing any better will install it upside down, the reason for my mentioning it.

1963 10hp Johnson QD-24 Flywheel rotating the mag plate

OR, the mag plate is wobbling too much. Did you remove it and the mounting rings? The rotating ring goes flat side up.

    1969 Johnson 55

Uh-huh. Anti-reverse spring re-installed correctly? Just guessing because I've seen it so often. The little metal does NOT stick down through the loop in the spring.

    Unfindable(so far) gremlin

OK, I believe you, You do know what I'm talking about, right? Most old boats had sealed floors with air space below the floor for floatation. A guy would bring his nice clean boat in on the trailer and say it won't get out of it's own way. I would pull the drain plug out of the floatation...

    Unfindable(so far) gremlin

OK, I'm going to go out for a long pass on this one. Have you inspected the BOAT? It wouldn't be the first one to have 50 gallons of water under the floor. And/or, how about the boat bottom? Any fouling from marine growth? You would be amazed at how much drag can result by just a few...

    Unfindable(so far) gremlin

So this problem has existed for several years? You mean it never has performed well? What do you have on it for a prop? What kind of a boat?

    Water Pump not Working?

All right, to explain the system better. Of course the pump pumps water all the time. The water goes up to and through the powerhead, then is presented to the thermostat. If the 'stat says it is too cool, the water returns to the pump for recirculation. But a portion is discharged to cool...

    Water Pump not Working?

That is basically true. But it is not an either-or thing. It always adds some lake water regardless of thermostat position. This is necessary in order to cool the exhaust. The thermostat is always sampling the temperature and opening and closing as necessary to maintain desired temperature...

    Water Pump not Working?

    1. You simply cannot test a water pump by running on a hose. The pump is not pumping when you are doing that, only allowing hose water to pass through. 2. If you have any doubt at all, check the water pump. The light came on, that qualifies as "doubt". 3. Examine the pump before ordering...

Evinrude 33hp ski twin running poorly

Couldn't see your video, but could "sort of" hear it. I think I hear lean sneezes. You did try turning the slow speed needle a tad toward rich ---didn't you?

1970 60 hp evinrude with no spark

Stick a bolt in where? This is the wire you unscrewed from the distributor cap. It has a small threaded brass terminal on the end. Just use that as a spark gap.

1970 60 hp evinrude with no spark

That is correct. When I said "rig up" I meant use your imagination. Like any way to hold the threaded end of the wire about 3/8" from ground. Yes the wire you unscrewed from the distributor cap. Maybe even hold it by a piece of tape?

1970 60 hp evinrude with no spark

Disconnect and unbolt the coil and unscrew the wire from the distributor cap. Remount the coil, reconnect the primary wire,, and rig up a spark gap off the end of the spark wire. Disconnect the wire that goes between the amplifier and distributor. Turn on the ignition switch. Now, lightly...

71’ 25hp Johnson still rough running

No, running on one cylinder won't gunk up the carburetor. No, running on one cylinder won't dirty up the points. But of course, dirty points can make it run one one cylinder.
