40 hp big twin linkage removal to replace impeller

Look for an access plate about half way down on the midsection. Remove that and you will find another one inside. Remove that one and you will find the shift rod connector inside. Completely remove the lower bolt from the connector.

That was a recoil starter lockout. Prevents you from pulling the starter rope at high throttle settings (in gear). Doing s could pitch you out over the transom.

    71 25hp Johnson running hot?

There are two water flow routes through that powerhead, one route is thermostat controlled, the other not. It is possible that one route could be plugged up. On that thought, when you had the thermostat cover off, did you see any kind of a rubber plug? If so, remove it. That was a service...

1967 evinrude 80 hp need help.

Oh, that's the old OMC single lever control. Pretty rare find. Lifting the small lever as shown in the picture advances the throttle a bit while in neutral gear for cold startup. Once started, and warmed up a bit, lower the small lever and hopefully it will sit there and continue to run at...

Who told you they are a PITA? They don't get much simpler than this. What kind of remote control (shift/throttle) do you have? Picture?

Looking for help, new boat owner

Stated another way, I believe I said an Evinrude Fastwin is essentially the same thing as a Johnson FD. Your chart says a Fastwin head is 96-120Inch pounds. So same thing applies to a FD, since it is the same motor. "Good to go" is an old term meaning all is well and you can proceed.

75HP Evinrude Loses Power During Acceleration

The long vertical lever that moves the timer base------timer base should move to full advance BEFORE the "contour plate" kicks the carburetor throttles wide open. If the timer base is sticky, it will lag and the carbs will open too soon, before full spark advance. When that happens, it will...

Top cylinder not firing Johnson 55ESL69A

Is that a true statement? .35" is the same as saying .350" or a tad over 7/16". That would be excellent for that old battery CDI system. But if you really meant .035" (thirty five thousandths), that is borderline poor.

    Johnson V4 swivel grease

What happens is corrosion builds up around swivel bushing, #3 causing it to squeeze tightly onto the swivel pin #7. No real cure, except to take it apart (not an easy job) and clean the corrosion out, then keep it greased in the future. Not recommended, but some have been known to heat the...
