    Flywheel movement

So you are talking about fore and aft movement? Some movement is normal, but wouldn't be noticed by the average bear. It would have to be measured by a dial indicator as previously suggested. Even then, the manufacturers usually don't give a spec. If you are getting a few thousandths of an...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

That filter can fool you. With a nearly full tank, the whole filter is submerged and passing fuel. With half a tank, only the bottom half is submerged (and that's the dirty half).

1970 Johnson 4hp hard to steer

Peer in right above the transom, between the stern brackets. See that screw head looking back at you? That is the steering friction adjustment. Tighten/loosen it to suit yourself. But if it is backed off and still hard to steer, you'll have to take it apart and clean the corrosion out and...

1970 60 hp evinrude low voltage

Start at the beginning. Measure your voltage by touching the leads directly to the BATTERY TERMINALS---not the motor cables or anything else (but with motor cables connected).. Turn on the ignition to load it and see what reading you get. It should be over 12V If yo get that 10-something...

1970 60 hp evinrude low voltage

Exactly where are you measuring that 10.6V? If at the battery terminals themselves, it indicates a dead cell in the battery (defective battery). If somewhere other than at the battery terminals, you will have to find the voltage drop. Do some simple voltage drop tests.

Older Johnson Outboard Exhaust Plate Warp Issue

The usual failure of that plate is because it is so thin and not sandwiched between thicker parts in the immediate exhaust port areas. Being thin and not sandwiched, it warps with the slightest hint of overheat. I don't know of a cure. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

The "popping" is called a "lean sneeze" and is an indication of being too lean. Give the needle a tweak to the left to make it richer.

    1957 Johnson Javelin 35 hp

The latch for holding it down is looking right at you, between the transom brackets. There is no lock for holding it up in tilted position. People in "The Day" stuck a piece of 2 x 4 in it.

Clockwise spinnging Starter 1968 85hp Johnson

I'm going to toss in a guess here. My guess is that the starter has the wrong end-cap/brush holders, making it run backwards from how it is supposed to run. Yes it is supposed to run clockwise, which is reversed by the bendix' reduction gear, Then, the bendix (CCW) is reversed again, making...

    Wrong impellar?

X2 on the water squirt. That is a drain hole and totally normal. The water at that point has already gone through the powerhead and is heading back to the sea anyway. Check that motor very carefully for possible water ingestion into the cylinders. That could be the reason for lousy running...

Of course they can, we did it every day in our salt-water area shop. BUT--it is an art and you are almost guaranteed to screw it up. Heli-Coils are your best friend in such situations.

1963 Evinrude 28 HP Speeditwin Hard Start (Woodruff key?)

key is ok. Wires need to be dressed so they don't rub on flywheel (but that isn't making it hard to pull)

No power to red wire inside remote control

What motor? Look for a fuse near the starter solenoid. EDIT: Yep that's the fuse I meant. Like any other fuse, it blows because of an overload or short circuit. I can't find it for you from here.

    1970 evinrude lark 40

Actually, I just bought an eight speed last friday. Dang near everything on the truck is computerized. So far, so good. EDIT: Well not so good. The tonneau (however you spell it) cover already tore up and the running board bent from standing on it. Hey aren't you supposed to step on a...
