I think you are jumping to conclusions.

77 Johnson 70 horse coil dilemma

Unfortunately, we cannot see the column headings on your chart. But at a glance, at least, it seems to be saying 200-400 for the trigger coils (black/white to white/black). Or is that what it is saying?

My 1977 Johnson 70 Horse Struggles All Combined

You did ask for help, and I did say it was only a guess (from experience). But it would be rare with good luck for one of those 3-cylinder loopers to survive that kind of abuse---overheating to the point of melting plastic-- and water ingestion. That's all I know. God bless BTY. the jellied...

My 1977 Johnson 70 Horse Struggles All Combined

I can only guess from here. But for a beginning point, are you really sure it isn't still ingesting water from the exhaust covers? Maybe not as much, but any at all is too much. Secondly, when you had the exhaust covers off, you surely must have noticed if the piston skirts are scored from...

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

Ever change a shear pin in the middle of the lake? Dang near impossible to reach it without falling in. Or pull the motor off and into the boat. Or jump in the water and do it while swimming (????). The last pin I changed, I paddled the boat ashore to change it. This little guy was on the...

Big twin 40hp shear pin material?

It is not supposed to be "soft" nor shear. It is supposed to be a stainless steel DRIVE pin.

Electrolysis, for sure. By any chance, do you have copper anti-fouling paint on the boat hull?

    Recoil pull cord

BTW, there is a special tool for making that spring easier to rewind. But it can be done without the tool.

    Recoil pull cord

No but there are similar ones, Here is one for example. NOTE: I have not reviewed any of them for accuracy!! I could sit here for half an hour typing out the instructions, but----well, just say but.

Firing order 1977 85 HP Evinrude

Firing order is1-2-3-4. Number 1 is the highest-up plug. #2 is next one down and on the other bank. #3 is next one down and on the first bank. #4 is the lowest one and switch banks again. Coil wires look correct.

    1963 Johnson QD-24B

Did you lubricate the pawl spring and groove? Don't. Friction there is what makes the pawl swing out.

I would first pull the flywheel and check the points/cut-out ring/etc.

1971 50 hp hydroelectric drive won't go into neutral

The solenoids, when energized, hold the levers down, which hold ball valves against seats, which blocks oil flow, causing the shift. Note that it is oil pressure that shifts it. The electric part only holds those two balls down. I don't know what tubes you are talking about (without looking...

1986 90HP Crossflow Johnson - RPMs increase at WOT when steering

Sounds like a ventilation issue to me. If it isn't the prop, perhaps something about the boat changed? Or load? Do you have it jacked up on the transom?
