What to use to patch hole on hull of Aluminum Boat

Looks like it could be a drain hole for the strake. Can you see the hole from the inside ?? Often they put a drain hole in the strake, but after time the water in the strake finds it way up thru the rivet heads and into the boat. If it is in the strake not sure you want to plug it, instead...

    Carburetor clean versus carburetor rebuild

Just look thru this and other forums on trouble shooting engines that dont run right. The majority are under " I just cleaned the carb and it doesn't run right"....How many do you see that say I just rebuilt the carb with a rebuild kit and it doesn't run right"....I cant remember any from the...

    Blue Sea dual battery troubleshooting

Measured at the terminals with a good guage...a full battery is 12.6 volts or above !! Below 12 volts is considered dead ! Below 11 volts is trash time, battery wont recover and needs replaced !!

What to use to patch hole on hull of Aluminum Boat

Yes...why is that hole there should be important !! If a lost rivet, no problem....if caused from corrosion, then that could be a bigger issue !!

What did you do to your boat today?

Fixed my electric short in my outboard, the trim pump wires got caught in the trim hinge and shorted them out. Final testing this afternoon..

    Trim pump short questions

Went out this morning and tried again, another new fuse, put plugs back in and disconnected trim pump...turned over without blowing fuse !! Tried numerous times and all was good. Reconnected trim unit and that worked from engine and remote controls with no issues !! Tried cranking engine and...

    Trim pump short questions

Is it possible to put the upper half of the sterndrive on first? Or do I need to put the whole drive on together?

I made a fixture with wheels to hold the whole outdrive out of some 2x4's, made the job much easier as I always removed my outdrive over the winter. Build it to the height that works best...

    Trim pump short questions

OK...posting an update, bought some new fuses rather than trust the old pkg I had on hand. With a new 20A fuse in the engine the trim does work now both on engine itself and at that throttle control. Push the key and the choke clicks, turn the key and the engine turns over without plugs...

    Trim pump short questions

Today had my first ever electrical issue, for me that is scary, as a toolmaker I can make anything, but electrical stuff is foreign other than basic stuff. So launched my 16' tinnie with 1992 Merc 40hp classic with power trim/ tilt. Trimmed motor down, ready to start....dead... Checked...

    1961 Starcraft Holiday gunwale damage

Once you drill out all the rivets holding it together, it might be fairly easy to move everything back into position. Mabey a little welding on some torn material. Not that hard to re rivet that area. Many riveting articles in the rebuild forums and rivets are fairly cheap. Gonna take some...

Pontoon in tube gas tank vent?

Those two lines off the neck should be for venting, or at least one should be !! My boat has a built in tank with a vent hose running to the outside of the hull. Vent line exit should be higher than the tank and an upward loop before the vent. The idea is any water getting into the vent will...

Brake drum and bearing cap questions

Lesson learned !!! Hubs need regular maintenence even with bearing buddies !! On my trailer, I have always rebuilt the hubs every other year. At the beginning of each season I jack up the axle and feel for free play, spin the wheel and check for smoothness. If all looks and feels right, I...

Inherited new boat. Unsure what it is exactly

While that might slow down the reaction, those chemicals will leach out every time the wood gets wet and sooner or later will get to the aluminum. There are folks that have gotten away with using treated lumber with no issues....how much of a gambler are you ??
