Water coming in through bilge pump

All my boats ( many of them) over the years, always had bilge discharge on the sides !! With that said, if it were my boat, I would try a taller loop ( easiest and cheapest) and see what happens, if that doesn't work then add a check valve into the line...

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

However, when it sloshes around it may not mix but the water gets picked and run thru the system causing the motor to stall and make it loose power and hard to start! Been there on many ocassions !!

    Transom leak near exhaust

When a transom gets soft from rot, the wood around the mounts collapses and causes water leaks. If you tighten the bolts, it collapses the transom wood even more, causing a bigger leak. Pull engine and outdrive and replace transom with solid wood. Hate to give you the bad news...

    Storing fishing poles in gunwale?

That is a tough one...had one like it and rod storage was a pita !! You might consider cutting away some of the side covering so the rods set in a bit, other wise they are gonna stick out and be in the way. Along the back might work...except going down the highway??

Evinrude 60hp - 3 Blade vs 4 Blade Prop Pitch

Unfortunately motors are designed to be used, the more they are run, the fewer issues you will have. And the opposite is also true, the more they sit idle the more issues you will likely have !! If nothing else, get a pair of water muffs and run the motor in your driveway once or twice a...

    Storing fishing poles in gunwale?

Done that a couple times and worked well, except if your kids are active... My grandkids in there younger days could not sit still and the fishing rods received there attention no matter where I put them!!

    Looking at a 1987 Bayliner 2160 Hardtop ???

Had that been an aluminum boat, the 3.0 would have been more than adequate if it were a Merc !! I had a 22' Starcraft aluminum with a 3.0 and it worked great. 34 mph with two adults and gear !! That heavy glass boat would have been a dog.

    Looking at a 1987 Bayliner 2160 Hardtop ???

Parts no longer availiable for OMC stuff, and probably some rot in the wood structure without a doubt !! Bayliner were budget built boats with lots of wood in the structure and that 3.0 is minium hp. All this is my opinion of course. For me, it is aluminum hulks all the way...no glass boats !!
