    Peeing means nothing. Thermostat or maybe you sucked something up. Alarm working properly? Once you rule that out we can move on to a possible fuel problem.

    My guess is you overheated it....vapor locked maybe. Either way it's probably cooked. Is this a remote or a tiller motor?

    Surging is typically a fuel issue so your not out of the woods diagnostic wise. Past owner said piece of grass? Compression check before spending anymore time on this engine.

    Sounds like it started to idle correctly right at the end. Anyhow, did you do a compression check before purchasing it? If so post those numbers.

    60 year old outboard....need I say more? You just want it to be marine grade at this point.

    My opinion...it kinds smells, that being said if you have the time and the knowledge check it out. Also, asking price isn't always the buy price. If time is money to you, do the lower offer before you go. Isn't yours the 88 SPL? Either way, it's called rolling the dice.

    I'm thinking rpm drop is because your dropping one bank and the other power pack is not cutting off. Figure out which one it is and replace it or swap them and see if the problem follows.

    I hate to tell you but that's about all you get which is enough really. I'd put the old OEM back on. I could test that rectifier in about 5 minutes. New 4 strokes are getting 14.5 but not older 70's....just sayin

    Why did you change it out?....and what are you reading now.

    Could be a crappy switch....but I agree, do a continuity test on the kill wire from the box to its grounding spot.

    If it's a Frankenstein than you just need to improvise. (Cut and connect wires and so forth. Be sure to ground it well)

    Still won't shut off, it has 5 wires coming off the motor when others have 7 Plus, if you use it, the frame of the motor shocks you! Fun stuff really. Other than that it works well. Can you see the picture? Just wondering.

    Can't get the motor to shut off with key. 78 35hp with the black plug at the motor hooked up to a control box with the red plug. It won't shut off with the key. Does the black plug not have the kill ground? Funny, I haven't seen this before.
