Slow plane at high altitude 5.0L MPI, please help

The 5 liter is not known as Torque Monster at the best of times, and 5000+ft isn't helping. At least with FI, the ECM should take the thinner Air into account. Are the Props 'Vented'? That can help the weaker in the Torque dept. engines

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

I meant that more as Joke. That said, when you bought it, there was no Serial # on the Receipt? Take a Spark Plug out. Does it look like a regular Spark Plug or is it a surface gap? In 66 Mercury started using surface gap plugs You will find, that the Parts people will always want a Serial...

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

That motor may be a little on the Hot side, even when not running One thing's for sure. it is not a 115. Likely a 100hp or a 90hp. - 1965 if a 66, then the choices are 110 and 95 67 is out of the running, in 67 they only had a single Ignition Coil

"Tiawan stuff has far better quality comming out of there country" I would beg to differ, my latest Nikon, a D850, made in Taiwan, is the worst DSLR I have ever owned, it is a Real piece of Fecal Matter. It has been sent back to Nikon, twice. They claim it meets "Factory Tolerances". If it...

    1991 20HP Evinrude no acceleration

Poor punctuation caused that. Too many people write long never ending sentences that never end where they never use commas periods and still expect others to figure out what they said and meant even though it may be difficult they know what they meant and they figure we should know because they...

    1991 20HP Evinrude no acceleration

OMC hasn't used Shear Pins since the early 50s. They did use Drive Pins of Stainless Steel, for many years after, but in 1968 started to transition to Splined Shafts and Hubs. In most cases the Props had Rubber Hubs to protect the Shift Mechanism, in some motors they used a coiled Slip Spring...

Welcome to iboats It is unlikely you will see any difference in top speed. You will likely notice a difference in Hole Shot. It will be slower with more Pitch

    1991 20HP Evinrude no acceleration

I doubt you will see any difference in speed, by going up in pitch. As mentioned above, you need a Tachometer to tell you what RPM the Motor is running when at WOT. The engine needs to be within a certain Rpm range, if it is to achieve it's HP and have any Longevity. I believe that with your...

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

Likely under the upper cowl support. Here is a pic of my old engine with the Rear and Front supports removed from the upper, which is still attached. It also has the water jacket cover off. But do what racer suggested, look on the Tilt/Swivel Yoke for it first.
