3.0 engine temp never gets over 160 F

That is where a lot of People get things Wrong. These Engines are operating in Marine Application, which is far different than operating in an Auto/Truck. While the Coolant Temps are lower in a Marine Engine, I wouldn't be surprised to find that the Piston Temps are higher than in an...

    4.3lx intake manifold question

If you see any gain at the top, you will likely see a drop in low end torque, compounded by any increase in Prop Pitch. When it comes to boats, Displacement and Torque Increases are far more noticeable than HP increases. And what flies well in Street engines is often worth zilch in a Marine...

Steering bracket help 1959 lark 35

In the early days of Mariner the 40 and 50hp were 2 cylinders. Mariner and Mercury relabeled the 4 cylinder 50 to 45 the same year. The 44 cu in block was introduced in 1958 as a 40hp, in 61 it was also used for the 50hp and in 62, a 45 and a 50

You are sure the Replacement is an actual Volvo 4.3? Perhaps the Motor that was finally found and installed, was an Auto/Truck engine, even still retaining an Auto/Truck Thermostat.

    Enough horsepower?

Myself, I would be putting a 150 on it. If you are worried about exceeding the HP rating, a Merc 135 V6 would be a great choice for that boat.

The 4 cylinder 50 was still a 50 in 1985, in the late 80s it became the classic 45. Nothing changed on the engine, except the Decal.
