Merc Alpha4 no longer available. What to replace it with?

Well I should start another thread for me. Let's see what Chris comes back with.

Merc Alpha4 no longer available. What to replace it with?

No matter what performance goal I input Mercs prop selector never mentions the Tempest Plus for me. Is it a rather new prop? Maybe only targeted for outboards.

Merc Alpha4 no longer available. What to replace it with?

Scott, just so we can compare I think you left off the pitch of your Rev 4. Also, why such steep pitch on the Spitfire? Doesn't seem fair to that product.

Just an fyi, according to Mercury's website the Rev 4 is also available in 18" and 20" pitches.

Merc Alpha4 no longer available. What to replace it with?

Will hope to go through the same process this summer. So achris let me get this straight. You actually increased pitch by 1 inch and added a blade and kept the same rpm going from the Vengeance to the Alpha4? Wow I would have never thought that! This really is a trail and error endeavor.

    Little Boat - Good Vibes

It's not so much the dimensions but the age and style of the boat, flotation requirements back in the day, etc. Lots of difference between a 12' RIB and what you're looking at. On YT you can watch someone take a 13' Whaler from Miami to Bimini but this is a rare occurrence, most likely planned...

    Hull vents

Didn't realize outboards needed vents. Looking at pics online I see very few vents if any.

    Open Bow Boat Sleeping ideas

If people can sleep on the side of Mt. Everest you can sleep anywhere with the right equipment. I sleep on my bowrider in KY several times a year. Sometimes with only the bimini, sometimes with full enclosure depending on weather. From a comfort standpoint the more important question is how...

    Manual #31 spark plug torque

Manual #31 page 4B-4 says the torque for my 2002 5.0 MPI spark plugs should be 15 Nm/11 lb-ft. Dang that seems light. Does this sound correct? Appreciate any input.

    Alumacraft Trophy

I don't have one but there are many on here who could provide input if they knew what the question was. How long have you owned it?

    fast inflatable

I assume he's talking about an old Johnrude looper. Probably no heavier than the modern 40 4stroke. Sounds like a fun setup. Get ready to wear ear protection and goggles. She's gonna fly!

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Wow that's awesome Jim on the Enertia. How did you get dialed in to correct Enertia? Did you make an educated guess and go for it or did you work with an exchange program?

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Thanks for all the input guys. Tbh I didn't intend for this to turn into a "what prop is best for me" thread. I won't get into my prop wallet at least until mid summer after the debris clears the lake. Just bored (yes snowed in) and wondering what to expect from the prop outlets/exchange...

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Thanks guys, all good info. Actually I'm relatively happy, just wondering what could be. I'm currently slipping 16% at cruise which a lot and I mainly cruise so my goal would to get that number down. I'm currently turning 100 rpm over max for engine at 51 mph so I'm right where I need to be...

Correct bottom gasket for impeller kit?

I encountered this last year when I changed mine also. They switched to the metal one a few years back it seems. I used a thin layer of Permatex Aviation on both sides.

Considering upgrading this season - prop exchange programs

Considering undergoing a prop upgrade this season. I understand the technical aspects of prop optimization but what I have not experienced is the in/outs of dealing with prop retailers. If I want to get really dialed in I understand I need a retailer that offers an exchange program. I...
