As I said before check for spark as soon as possible when it fail. If you can reuse the plugs there are no rich mixture issue. I think the coils are the culprit.

When it stop next time check for spark as soon as possible. Are the plugs that you change out bad and not usable any more or can you use them again when they have cool down?

Yes I assume that, the coils are affected. When the coils are cold the insulation can be good, when they get warm the insulation can be bad and the windings maybe shorted. A crack in the coil is not a normal situation.

    Force Outboards Rated By Model

1-1,5 turn out from seated is a general setting for two stroke OBs. Some engines need up to 2,5 turn out from seated. The carbs who are mounted at Chrysler and Force OB are Tillotson or Wallboro brand and the low speed circuit in these carbs is acting at high speed too. If you have the air/fuel...

If you have the coils mounted at the block and there is no CD box you have a battery ignition system. The ignition system need a 12V battery to work. Check the coils for cracks, it is a common issue with this battery system. If you leave the keyswitch in RUN position when you do not run the...

    Stator 6hp non standard

Those two coils are lighting coils. I think your engine should have a lighting outlet at starboard side.

Spark plug wires on an 89 Force 50 hp

Pull off the rubber boot and check the spring. Maybe you can clean it up and reuse the spring. Otherwise there are a terminal boot kit, part number 63709A1.

    Force Outboards Rated By Model

No all 85 and 90 Hp are 3 cylinders with three carbs. The one carb 70Hp from 1991 and up with Chrysler/Force power head and Mercury gear case is a 3 cylinder engine. The 85 and 90Hp are good engines, old school design (cross flow chargning) from the 60.es and with newer electronic ignition...

Does it foul the plug and destroy it? Or is it the ignition coil that fail after about 1 hour? Do running at low RPMs (trolling) all the time or do you throttle it up and running at higher RPMs? Fouling plugs and make the plug to get shorted is due to the air/fuel mixture is to rich.

Are we talking about the 55Hp who was introduced in 1968 or the 55Hp from 1977 with twin carbs (818cc volume) which actually was the 60Hp from 1974 (with Magna Power II ignition system)? I suppose we are talking about the early 55Hp from 1968. These engines has the same LU as the 35 and 45 Hp...

    1964 9.5 evinrude

Those three mechanics do not know what they are talking about. Have worked with outboards in 25 years and many different brands. That engine is fried, scored cylinder walls, scored pistons and the piston crowns are affected from overheat and or pre detonation.

Remember when you spin it with a drill, how fast does the drill spin? If you have a drill with one gear it only spins about 500RPM. The OB idle about 750-800RPM. Checking with a drill is not a sufficient check and why do you want to check the impeller! The impeller needs to be changed every 3-5...

Throttle and remote control linkage adjustment

When moving the remote handle turn the prop at the same time. If the clutch dog teeth are facing against the gear teeth you maybe damage the shift rod or the remote control. If you turn the prop when moving the remote handle the teeth at gear and clutch dog will engage as it should. When you...

Throttle and remote control linkage adjustment

As less play as possible. When adjusting the connectors the shift connector should be adjusted soo the ball just drop into the hole in the connector. The throttle connector should be adjusted soo you have a spring load. You should have to pull it 1/4 in to drop the ball in the connector hole.

Throttle and remote control linkage adjustment

Yes that are the right connectors. The spring loaded longer one for the throttle and the shorter for the shift.

Throttle and remote control linkage adjustment

Do you have the correct end couplers? The throttle should have a spring loaded coupler and the shifter should have a coupler without a spring load function.

    50 hp high speed misfire

Okey, if you have the timing advance at 28 drg BTDC at cranking speed, then you are on track.

    50 hp high speed misfire

The Force power, yes of course the no load situation with no prop will cause the stumbling acting, you are right. My experience is that the cross flow engines like Chrysler/Force are more sensitive to it then OMCs and Mercs that are loop charged and direct charged. 2 cylinders are more sensitive...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Yes as The Force power says when throttling down when running in a tank and without a prop some two strokers can behave like it is misfire. I think it depends on if it is a cross flow engine or a loop charger. From my experience it will arise more at 2 cylinders then 3 or 4 cylinders. Maybe some...

    '87 Force 125HP ignition problem

This ignition system can be confusing but follow he troubleshooting chart and swap the CDI boxes etc. Do output test with a DVA meter/adapter and you will find out the bad part. It is good if you have known good working parts to put on. I know it is expensive parts for the ignition system but...
