    In dash GPS speedo?

Buy a cheap GPS hand held and mount it to your dash with a Ram Mount. Or, replace the pitot and tubing and it will run spot on. My 1952 classic on an oldie boat runs equal to my GPS, and all I did was replace a rubber tube.

    No title or registration

If you like hassle, jump thru hoops. If you want to live in comfort put it on your front lawn with a sign that says: "FREE". Storage wars are a gamble. My neighbor does that and his garbage pile is HUGE every week. Just be sure that if you do sell it, you put the profits on your income tax.

Pairing engine size with boat size

I have 2 of those porkers. A 1-liter 60 and a 3-liter 150. Both are raised on the transom and the SS props were selected to achieve optimum rpm performance. Both jump on plane in an instant, with ZERO bow rise. On different boats with similar HP / weight ratios, vying the same course, my...

Pairing engine size with boat size

I bought a 40V weedwacker 3 years ago. It gives me 2 full yard jobs on 1 charge. Recharge is 1 hour when dead. Liking it so much I bought a second one this year for my cabin. Then, a chain saw and a leaf blower. All 4 units use the same battery so recharging half way thru a job is never...

    Solar Power Installation . . .

My Renogy will provide about 14+ volts if the batteries are low. After a short time the voltage drops to about 13.4 and stays there. If I turn off the solar cell, initially the battery shows about 13 volts, but drops to 12.7 after an hour or so (surface charge). I'm not reporting the voltage...

Pairing engine size with boat size

Remember annual car tune-ups? I.E, plugs, points and condenser. Then came electronic ignition on carbed engines, now EFI. Efficiency is one thing. But even more important is reliability. Sure the new systems are complicated and require a trained mechanic and a computer. But the fact that...

Pairing engine size with boat size

What does efficiency mean? Fast speed? Low fuel usage? Running the engine at optimum "performance"? To me, it means all of the above. I have 3 outboard powered boats. Top speeds are 26, 35 and 53. The fastest ones have similar mpg, and the slowest (an oldie) sucks gas like crazy. I run...

planning first trip to thousand islands

We are going up in 2 weeks.....again. It will be our 33rd trip. Not going to "The River" in the Summer is not an option. We have plied the waters in 9 different boats. From tent to camper to cottage to luxury hotel. I think our most memorable vacation was at the height of Covid. We...

Are Boston Whalers as prone to waterlogging as other boats?

According to the History of Whaler, right after college **** Fisher began building small light weight boats out of Balsa wood. In the 1950's when poly foam was invented, he began experimenting building skiffs with foam cores. When he perfected the hull design he began marketing his boats as...

    Solar Power Installation . . .

Maybe an apples to oranges comparison, but I also have a 100W Renogy system, although its on an RV. The system was installed 5 years ago on a 1 year old battery. I check water levels every 6 months, and I only have to add a couple ounces. In that time the battery has never dropped below 12.6...

Are Boston Whalers as prone to waterlogging as other boats?

It is my understanding that waterlogged hulls are due to damage of some sort or someone drilling holes and not sealing them. Regardless, a "little" water isn't the end of the world. Remember that they are constructed without stringers (no wood at all) so rotten innards is never part of the...

    Wanting to know the year

The "standard" is 3/4 pint per gallon. If you run the motor for trolling only, and get plug fouling, reduce it to 1/2 pint per gallon.

    Wanting to know the year

That's an Elgin, circa 1945ish, probably 5.5 HP. The model number will be found on a plate, and/or a freeze plug on the powerhead. Provide that number and we can dial it in exactly.

    Mercury 60hp CT prop question

Ours is a 15' Whaler that weighs about 2000 # loaded. I'm turning a 14" SS 3-blade Vengeance. WOT is 5950 rpm at ~35 mph in a very light chop. These are verified numbers with GPS and VesselView. The tach was reading about 600 rpm high. When it was installed the setting switch was wrong...

    Mercury 60hp CT prop question

Before you do anything, verify your rpm and speed data. I also have a 60CT and when I installed a VesselView I found that the tach on the dashboard was wrong. If your performance (plane, ) is not an issue, your prop probably isn't too far off.

    Trailer hitch height???

So, what do they know. I have 3 tow vehicles and 4 boat trailers. ALL have the drawbar adjusted to 19" and they all pull all of the trailers level. As an aside, what bothers me is when people ask a question, and when I google it for them, 234 answers come up. I guess its too simple to ask a...

    Hydro Shield Skeg Foil

Pick any topic and there will be opposite opinions. "Some" of the negatives will be from those that didn't try it, and others that installed it wrong. Some others never really did the homework. And of corse others that didn't really need it. Products that are useless usually get filtered out...
