    Taking suggestions 5.7 Vortec

I’d take the belt off it and see if it stops the noise. Only run it for a short while obviously

    Magnum or No?

I’d be 99% certain it will be a standard 4 barrel 7.4 with a quoted 330hp in its day. Never really understood the difference even between a 5.7 4 barrel (from the 90’s) and a 350 magnum with a 4 barrel. Both had 260hp as far as I know.

2016 Mercury 115 2.1l earthing grounding shorting issue

Update. Removed the remotes again today and re seated the cables. Runs well again but gets stiff gradually and shorting/earthing/switching starts to creep in. Definitely to do with the cable run binding and perhaps making a worn wire insulation allow shorting..or the tightnesses either resulting...

2016 Mercury 115 2.1l earthing grounding shorting issue

Narrowed it down to the remotes and or cable run between there and engine. Had it temporarily fixed today after taking the remotes to bits. Throttle operation went to as easy and smooth as it’s ever been. Ram perfect for an hour then went stiff again and problems started again. Not as bad...

2016 Mercury 115 2.1l earthing grounding shorting issue

Apologies. Just wondering if there are any known issue with the modern mercury like this, that would cause electrical issues that show sporadic voltage fluctuations between 14.3-15v. Also enough to result in the engine running poorly from not getting enough power to run its ignition system. The...

5.7 TBI possible fuel pump issue

Ah. Got you. Yeah it could be something like a restriction or it’s drawing air. But if the engine is running ok, seems strange if it was. Does it sound like it’s pumping air ? Rather than a steady tone ?

5.7 TBI possible fuel pump issue

Are you getting fuel spraying into the throttle body from the injector ? Bad fuel may or may not be your issue perhaps, but if it was…the old filter being ok and a new filter in place won’t have any bearing on a very recent ingestion of bad fuel. Bad fuel only usually makes itself known, when...

5.7 TBI possible fuel pump issue

The odds on and usual favourite, would be bad fuel or water in the fuel. Have a look at the fuel filter. If you have any spare fuel in a can…rig it up so the fuel supply line can dip into that as a source. Fill the fuel filter with the fresh fuel too.

What depth is safe for a stern drive 16ft to 18ft boat?

I’d say the average depth of water they draw would be about 2.5ft but obviously will squat deeper again with passengers onboard and also when under way at a certain speed when the bow lifts. Some will draw more water than that too. My 18ft Campion with its heavy hull and v8 engine will draw...

2016 Mercury 115 2.1l earthing grounding shorting issue

Hi Tracking down an earthing issue and obviously done the usual things Wondering if either the ground cable that travels down the mid section to gearbox and also grounds the trim pump is the issue or perhaps the other suspect is the ignition or kill switch. Are the remote throttle boxes known to...

Dometic RV fridge RH460LD any good?

Here in Europe at least…the dometic brand is what used to be known as Waeco. As far as I know, at least. I bought a waeco CF11 portable 12v fridge (can also freeze down to -18oC) for the boat. It’s simply been an incredible thing for us. It will have done easily over 1000 hours trouble free...

No worries. The orange wire is labelled at calibration. You’ll see it easily

Good call 😂. Sounds like it’s something around this is likely.

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

Shark skin has more relevance, I’d say. Surely we all remember the rough texture dimpled swim suits that were quickly banned, upon realising their advantage.

Did it run better previously and with the same prop as it has now ?

    Quicksilver transom assembly replacement

Thanks for the info. It’s had a number of serious works. The engine has been in bits, along with a new coupler, to name a few. He’s decided to give it a pass. Good chance it’s been over loaded or seen some salt water ingress.

    Fuel use meter?

The VesselView mobile is a great wee thing for modern mercs. The sc1000 gauges will also give you every bit of data too. I have both on my merc outboard and the VesselView on my mercruiser v8 mpi.

    Grinding going into gear

There is no clutch, if you like. It’s a dog clutch arrangement. Gears are harshly engaged. The effect is far worsened if there is any play in the cables at all. Need to be really well set up and when engaged, a positive and confident action is required at the remotes. As you’ll likely know anyway.

    Grinding going into gear

Ok. They do make a noise like that going into gear. Especially out the water. It’s a straight cut dog, as you’ll know.
