    Time to chuck the 470

Wouldn’t need a change in ratio at all. Certain of it. That’s what he asked there. Prop pitch an inch or 2 at worst. Regards to the inner transom area. He would be lacking an exhaust pipe for a start…going to a 4.3 😁. But the big issue is the intrusive glass work needed to the inner hull for...

    Time to chuck the 470

No change in outdr Be required at all. Hope that helps. But if you go 4.3….everything but the outdrive needs changed. Inner transom set up too, for exhausts change. You’ll know about thr invasive glass work you’ll need too. For the mounts.

    Engine idle rpm oscillations

Tend to agree. Looks fairly normal to me and could just be temperature or variance with some throttle on.

Does anyone know the name of this boat?

It’s almost certainly been an open boat at one time…likely even used to be a ship’s lifeboat in a former life. Someone has had a go at the upper half there after.

    Stern Drive to Alpha One?

Suppose the other thing is obviously making sure you get the right ratio for your set up.

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

Probably…but be just fine to get you a more realistic result of her health. And crucially, she’ll have oil around about her and letting the rings do what they are meant to. These things need a film of oil around the bores and rings to give their best. Everything all expanded and tight. See what...

    Engine idle rpm oscillations

Doesn’t look like the IAC to me really. More likely a fuel quality issue perhaps and or a temperature sensor telling the engine to run rich or similar.

At wits end Runs great for 20miles then knocking then sputtering 3.0

It definitely could. Defo check the choke operation for sure. What plugs is that you have in her ? Worth checking, but should it not be Br6fs or similar? Your issue may be as a result of poor ignition too.

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

I think you need to run the engine up to temperature then do a test. You’ll know already, I’d think…that these things need to be started and stopped in a certain way, when on the trailer. Start the engine first, then turn hose on. To stop…turn hose off first, then stop engine. Otherwise you...

Volvo SX-M Trim Tilt Control Unit Problem

Do you have a additional switch on the transom or bathing platform of the boat ? Other than that having an influence, I wonder if your trim limit position is needing set up or calibrated. Could also be as a result of poor continuity in the wiring from the remotes to the unit. Finally, does it...

Sport Jet 175 xr2 - low compression in one cylinder

Run the engine up again and try the test again. See what happens. Did you test this after it was ran ? If so..was it ran on hose on trailer ? If so..did you turn the water off before stopping engine ?

    Time to chuck the 470

Likely right Lou, if it all lines up for the fella. But with regards to the 4.3…I’ve had these in a bayliner 2255 cruiser and a more powerful VP version in a heavy built sealine 23ft 4 berth. That weighed over 2 tons with fuel in her. She did just fine with that old 4.3. Was the 205a. I’m sure...

    Time to chuck the 470

Yeah. Totally get that. Just depends on ability and cost I suppose. The requirement for glassing in new mounts for them might scare some from the idea perhaps. Lots to change that way for sure. No doubting the 3.0 for it’s reliability…had one in the early days and know of loads in friends boats...

    Time to chuck the 470

Think the 3.7 I referred to was 170hp. Was replaced with a 3.0 with apparently 30hp less.

    Time to chuck the 470

Yeah. For sure. Scott, I got a bit of stick from some guys on here for it last time, but my very close friend (told this story loads previously) had a darragh 22ft boat with a 3.7 in her. Was a cruiser thing…all be it, a fairly light built one, but certainly heavier than most any 18/19ft open...
  17. Q

    Clicking noise when rev,d up

Yeah. If you are in anyway mechanically minded or have a keen ear for an engine noise, it can definitely cause concern, to one who might be not aware of how they behave. One of my boat has a few of them, having a switched exhaust system. That’s even worse for it ! But yeah…at around those rpms...
  18. Q

    Time to chuck the 470

3.0 will drop straight in and easier. If it makes a difference to you. Depends on your needs and talent, if you want to go anything else.
  19. Q

    Clicking noise when rev,d up

Normally if all is well../the normal noise would appear at about 1000-1300 rpm in my experience. Then go away after or before that. If it’s the flapper.
