    There are wires to disconnect to drop the lower unit.-----Should have 7 bolts on the work bench for the lower unit to come off.

    Boats are subject to wind / current in a fluid.----Boats steer by moving the stern over.----Unlike a car that steers with the front wheels on solid ground.

    A J4C gets RID of heat quicker than a J6C plug.----Nothing burns any hotter with a J6C or J8C inside the cylinder.

    Time to take starter apart for cleaning / new brushes.-----Motors need a new impeller every 5 years too.----Replace solenoid.-----Dry out control box innards if it was submerged.------Dry out steering cable as it might jam up months from now due to internal rust.

    Did a motor that was submerged ( hidden ) for 3 weeks in fresh sandy water.-----Told owners to leave it in the water till they contacted me.----Took it apart on the spot.----Every thing was packed full of sand.-----Not a sign of corrosion anywhere !!----Put it together and had it running.----But...

    ????----Mercury had splines forever.-----First 13 spline appeared on the Johnson / Evinrude 1968 model 3 cylinder 55 HP.-----Not likely a sailboat application !

    That would fit the early 2 cylinder 50 HP.-----The 3 cylinder 55 to 75 HP.----V-4 85 to 140 HP.-----Meant for light fast boat for speeds around 60 MPH ( 100 Kilometers / hr ) or so.

    It can be submerged for weeks.-----It is when the motor is recovered that oxygen attacks the bearings.----Immediate action is required when it is recovered.

    It is the bearings on the crankshaft that are damaged by exposure to OXYGEN..-----The starter motor is the last of your worries !-----Get it running ASAP.----As in yesterday.

    You must get it running ASAP.----Within 6 hrs preferred.-----If you do not know how to go about it , call a shop.----Indicate that they MUST jump on the job.----Stay and make sure they do !!

    WARNING !! WARNING !! About brand new sparkplugs I bought.

    I recall years ago at a Johnson dealer.----Motors would sometimes have worn electrodes and a 0.060" gap or more.----Must have been running OK for a long time before owner decided on the tune-up.
