    1992 Mariner HP size

What outboard is it ? Merc v6 2 stroke ? I think the 150 would be a 2.0. The 175 might be a larger engine.

    Prop hitting anode

Agree. Can think of one or two that have a terrible quality control for their finished product

Reading Codes on a VolvoPenta 5.7GiC-300-J?

Does that have a flat cap distributor on it ? I’m not too up on the VP variants. It had a very low power output by the looks of it. Does she have 8 injectors and a fuel rail or is it single point throttle body injected

Mercruiser 5.0 mpi only 4000 rpm

Ok. So are there any indications that this 4000 rpm is a an electronically limited ceiling on the rpm ? Are there any beeps on the buzzer or signs of ignition being cut at that rpm ? Or is it more like it’s running out of puff at that ? Any signs of it backfiring or being fuel starved perhaps ?

Reading Codes on a VolvoPenta 5.7GiC-300-J?

So the easy connect, I presume, can perform the same functions as the mercruiser equivalent vessel view software. This means that you can read any faults that may show up and also clear most of them too, as far as I know. Regarding the logistics around installing it…I am not too well versed...

Reading Codes on a VolvoPenta 5.7GiC-300-J?

Not sure I can, if it’s a VP. Not up to date with the software they use to be honest. But yeah…if it’s a GXi engine, the ecu is the same as the mercruiser as far as I know. But depends which motor. I think the 5.7 and 6.2 have variations from the 5.0 for example. Or vary amongst each of them...

Mercruiser 5.0 mpi only 4000 rpm

Hi. What speed were you getting at 4000 rpm ?
  8. Q

2004 Merc 2 stroke 90HP seized after rebuild

That’s not enough oil for a break in. I’d also say never to hold the rpms the same for any length of time during a break in. Especially at that rpm so early in the break in. You’ll want to vary the rpm all the time during break in.

    Grew 237 Prop Question

Hi there. I think your rpms and speed aren’t to bad to be honest. And your reported cruising speed and rpms aren’t unusual either. I would also say that there isn’t a text book best economy rpm that stands true for every boat with the same engine. The best economy for a boat is not so much...

    Engine Bogging Down When Cold

The first one. Yeah. Rotor and cap.

    Engine Bogging Down When Cold

The rotor arm inside the distributor. Comes with the cap usually. I’m changing mine on the mpi this week. Be the 6th one in 7 years. Terrible for gathering moisture, cracking and just failing in general. 100’s of posts about them failing on here alone. It’s the flat (crap cap they’re nicknamed)...

    Engine Bogging Down When Cold

More than a good chance, it’s the distributor and rotor you need to replace. What you’ve described is standard symptoms. They do also over fuel a fair bit until they are up to temperature.

    Hydrofoil

It will soon break off the rest of the AV plate anyway. Terrible things

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI #3 cylinder ignition miss

Ok. Glad your boat is running better first off and most importantly. But having had a few beers in me…curious around the actual issue. So are you thinking that iridium ngk plugs were the issue causing the bad running ? Maybe I’ve picked it up wrong. I ran ac delco 993 plugs in mine for the...
  15. Q

    28ft Tahoe

What 115 is this ? What age ? Sounds like a small engine for a 28ft perhaps. It would need to be a CT 115 to have any real result on that boat, you’d think.
  16. Q

    8MLHU limited RPM

Hi. How are you managing to read the rpm off it ? And is it under load on the sail boat when you read the 2800 rpm ? I’m sure you’ll already know anyway…but these wee things generally need to be a jack of all trades. So one of these on a small inflatable dinghy will see high rpms and plane the...
  17. Q

    Starting issue

Most likely a connection issue or starter relay. But I’d pull the plugs and make sure they aren’t wet and turn it over with no plugs in it. Just to make sure something else isn’t going on.

Mercruiser Alpha One Gen I Winterization

Yeah. You’ll find a way to get to those drains. Crucial you do. Forget YouTube. These are the guys that end up with no boat in spring

    Hole shot, Mercruiser 4.3L

Didn’t want to rattle on and bore people. But now you mention it…yeah, haha. You wouldn’t put cheap wheels and tyres off a honda, on your corvette, would you.
