    Setting the timing on a 1972 model Evinrude involves the breaker points.----They need to open at the correct time relative to the rotation of the flywheel ( magnets ) around the coils.-----Maximum and idle timing are not an issue on the 72 model 25 Evinrude.----Using a meter to set breaker...

    Nonsense-----When a 2 stroke is stopped there is oil all over the bearings and between the piston and cylinder bore.----How does a whiff of quick start instantly make that wash away on a cold engine?.----I have stated it many times.----Oil and lubrication in 2 strokes is not well understood.

    I do not see any clear damage to the piston.----And the 33 cube parts are totally different.----I have worked on more than 1 or 2 of these engines !

    I have a couple of brand new 0.030" O/S pistons that have the same horseshoe shaped indent in them.

    You have what is called a " snap in " cable and not considered repairable.----But grind the bits off it and give it a try.

    Parts are coated with oil.----A wee squirt of starting fluid does not wash that oil away instantly !!

    Throttle should be open a bit so that air flow will make the choke do it's job.

    Have a bunch ( 10 or more ) of those for parts myself.-----Hopefully the oil mixing unit has been taken off your motor.-----Great motors except for the expensive electrical bits

    Check operation of the choke.----Do you push button in while cranking it over ?----Do you advance neutral warm up lever for cold starting ?

    Very typical of these units with the 2 tabs holding the propshaft bearing carrier.----Stripped teeth off the gears.

    On many of these you may need to swap the upper driveshaft and the shift rod.---Lots of gearcases can be made to fit.-----And the aftermarket ---SEI---Unit may be an affordable option.-----What went wrong with yours ?-----I would be looking to fit say a 1990 gearcase As I believe the propshaft...
