    Easiest to crank manual winch

Unfortunately, work is work. It may take "less effort" per crank with a 2 speed winch but depending on the gear ratio, may take 2 to 2.5 times as many cranks to retrieve the boat. To reduce effort w/o increasing duration you increase the ratio between the Crank and the Drum. The simplest...

    1997 175HP Oceanrunner Idle Adjustment

The motor doesn’t run once it gets up to operating temperature but it runs “great”? You substituted a homemade (inadequate), work around pump attached to a chuck of aluminum bolted to the block and don’t understand why it vapor locks? Install a proper VRO pump and I bet the problem goes away.

    Electrical Drain Issue

Where the brand new batteries fully charged when installed? How old is the spare? How was it fully charged? You think? Can’t sort this out w/o specifics The Perko switch only supports 2 batteries. How is the third battery connected to the switch? You understand the two batteries attached...

    Battery discharge. ...normal?

If you don't have a boat's entire electrical system behind a on-off switch your just asking for problems. People like to blame volatile memory and the likes for the consumption but your looking at 1.0 to 1.2 mA per week. That's nothing in the scheme of things. What many don't realize is that...

    Crappy hose

The cover stays in pretty good condition...... it's the liner that breaks down I run Trident Barrier Lined A1-15 (#365) to the fuel pump. Trident markets B1-15 hose (#305) as "Outboard Supply Hose" but the bend radius is much larger than the #365 hose which is why I went in that direction...

    Crappy hose

Having specified hoses for commercial and industrial applications for over 40 years, I never specify an outsourced third party hose w/o a manufacture's cut sheet. Unless Mercury went into the hose manufacturing business w/o my knowledge, or can supply a manufacture's cut sheet, Mercury's gray...

    New Fish Finder

Make you you compare apples to apples to apples. Hummingbird plays games with their specifications. A quick check proves this unit is no different. Still playing games with transducers specifications and performance. Still using proprietary mapping as well. Where are you boating? The Echomap...

    Ethanol Gas Observations

Been running E10 in my 1997 200 Evinrude for 20+ years. Changed out the original carb gaskets to the newer brown version and never looked back. E10 has no affect on spark plugs. Still the nice, light brown color they always are when running right. The only time I had “clean” plugs was the...

How to test bonding/grounding using a multimeter

Reverse the leads on the voltmeter and retake your reading. If you get negative -3.2 VDC you have a short (leak) to ground. Locate and remove the power to the bilge pump. Typically wired directly to battery. If wired to switch, remove the positive cable to each battery and retest.

How to test bonding/grounding using a multimeter

Call their BS….there is a 99.99% probability it’s a grounding problem at the pump. The fact that you got shocked proves the bonding back to your battery is in tact You got shocked because of a difference in ground potential (path of least resistance) between the pump and your boat. If the...

    1995 Evinrude 90hp Looper Stator?

Most of your “potting” epoxies are rated in the 400 to 500 degrees F range. Far above anything you would normally see in that location. On the other hand, arcs and shorts in windings encased in epoxy will elevate temps in the windings considerably. Have seen evidence of modules that have caught...
