high voltage to just one battery but not the other (from alternator)

The thin red wire (2) is not on the schematic. I suspect it’s a second charge line to be able to charge a second battery w/o the use of a switch. I would leave it disconnected until you solve the current issue

high voltage to just one battery but not the other (from alternator)

Your wiring is still messed up The “thin red” (#2) and thick red (#1) wires both go to the COM terminal on the switch. The “engine ground” is the heavy black cable coming from the motor. This gets tied directly to a battery negative post. You then run a heavy ground cable between the two...

Johnson 150 V6 Ocean Runner - not starting

Before you go broke blindly changing parts, take the time to troubleshoot the problem. This should get you through the process https://www.cdielectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/CDI%20Troubleshooting%20Guide%20-%202012.pdf

high voltage to just one battery but not the other (from alternator)

OK, read through your post. The 16.9V reading is suspicious unless the voltage regulator is damaged which your test seemed to confirm is not the case. Your switch and batteries should be wired as below. Main engine ground cable (-) goes directly to battery terminal. Main engine positive (+)...

Don’t assume…Timken manufactures in 33 different countries, China included. If the bearing doesn’t have USA stamped on the race, it’s not.

high voltage to just one battery but not the other (from alternator)

Your getting an over voltage because your trying to push through too much current through too small of a ground wire. Ideally, you run a negative battery cable between the two ground posts then tie the engine ground to one of the batteries. Run a seperate line for accessory ground.

    Old Boater Collections

Mostly IH and New Holland. The stuff was given to me for helping a neighbor with a divorce sale. Weird stuff like a complete wiring harness, key switch, battery cables, boxes upon boxes of OEM packaged replacement hardware, fan belts, oil, air and hydraulic filters, a case of NH 134 hydraulic...

    Old Boater Collections

I dread cleaning out my "accumulation" when it comes time to down side. I have a ton of "good" stuff that only has value to someone with a need. A lot of it will go straight to the dumpster and or scrap yard...not much demand for spare parts for 30 - 40 yro tractors and implements. For...

    Recommendations for cleaning bilge?

I've used Tide, Dawn and a couple of other household detergents with fairly good success. Won a quart of Orpine Bilge Cleaner in a raffle years back. Mix with a couple gallons of water and leave in the bilge for a couple of trips.........works great. Really helps if you use your wife's long...

    help with iffy gas?

No chemical “breakdown”. Ethanol simply combines with the water and falls out of solution lowering the octane of the remaining fuel. To “repair”, you simply remove the ethanol/water solution from the bottom of the tank and replace the missing octane (ethanol) in the solution. This could be...

Current Draw from Mercury Outboard Voltage Regulator

You could have a couple of things going on.,, Could be phantom voltage… the 117 resolution and accuracy leaves much to be desired for electronics troubleshooting. Your 1 mA could in fact be 0.001 mA Could have volatile and or non-volatile memory in the circuit to support. Not sure about your...

    help with iffy gas?

Define “bad” gas…… A separator full of water produces “bad” gas symptoms as well. Easily remedied with filters and or addatives

Anti Siphon Valve on Fuel Tank Pickup?

Perhaps our resident physics Professor Chris1956 could explain to us how to siphon liquids uphill…..lol BTW here is the regulation… I choose option (a) as I’m outboard powered. Option (b) applies to industrial egg beaters mounted in a hazardous locations. ;) § 183.568 Anti-siphon protection...

Wiring Power for Helix 5 on 2023 Glastron

Worth exactly what you paid for the information…… In an analog world 30 years ago there might have been some truth in the statement but not anymore. Auto ranging power supplies and surface mount technology have all but put it to bed. DC current flows from positive to negative. Scratching my...

    Water separator

Like electricity, the fuel pump would draw from the path of least resistance which certain isn’t against a dead headed fuel pump or the one way valve in the primer bulb.

Wiring Power for Helix 5 on 2023 Glastron

Don’t see the point in running a ground wire back to the battery. Any ground connection in the boat would work. You can connect to any power source. I just prefer to feed power a dedicated supply for a number of reasons.
