    Excellent. Sounds healthy to me. If you’re not already familiar with these wee things..I find it a good idea to turn the fuel off and let her run out of fuel at the end of a day out…gets as much fuel out the carb as possible before storage

    Change the plugs…fresh fuel at 50-1. All in the world will be well. Rather smoke, than no smoke.

    Famous for the drain plug, dip stick seals leaking. Often they can get nipped when tightening them back up. But generally just a bad design. I used to put silicone over the plugs after each oil change. Never had an issue after. Many others now do the same.

    cheers Chris...I think that quicksilver offered the GM 4.3 220 a good few years into the reign of the new in house engines. almost certain even early last year I saw them available. Could be wrong..I will have a look

    exhaust set up is different, need new engine mounts glassed in properly, drive ratio may be a little stretch perhaps, as said.

    a GM v6 would have no problems powering a boat like that all day. I have had them in a 22 and a 23 foot cabin cruiser with no problems. If you did want to stick to a 4.3, you can get a vortec 220hp carb 4.3 from quicksilver, last I looked. Hope that helps.

    Spot on...Thought it might be just 2 stroke...it just happens sometimes when the oil mix has been a little rich or the plugs aren't at their best..perhaps even low rpm sustained use, then put in storage...then you can get just exactly this...nothing to worry about.

    more I look, the more I am convinced that's just 2 stroke oil there. You could crack open the gear oil drain screw and see what is in there. I think it will look very different from that. You can usually tell by the smell too. There is no mistaking gear oil..horrible stuff. Usually be green or...

    Ok...I would probably not dismiss that as being unburnt 2 stroke oil residue, looking at it. Gear oil usually isn't black in colour. If I was a betting man...I would say that was 2 stroke out the exhaust and nothing to worry about. Very common.

    What did the mechanical gauge say when warm and cold ? Any idea what grade of oil is in it ? Is she getting up to temperature as she should be or running cold ? Is the oil filter correct and not to fine a micron for the engine ?

    Sure sounds like a running lean issue...did you replace the entire contents of the fuel tank so there is zero chance of water still in there ? Could also be the dip cap...being the one that is known to be terrible

    Sounds too tinny to be a flapper and not routine enough to be something mechanical and steady...sounds more like a loose bracket or rattle
